“He’s more of a man than you’ll ever be,” I quip. I’m normally never this brazen, but I can’t sit idly by anymore when my whole world is being turned upside down.
“Shut up,” Raymond growls back, and he stuffs a piece of cloth in my mouth. “I’ve heard enough from you.”
A hood is pulled over my head and secured tightly behind my neck.
I feel like I can’t breathe.
Within seconds, the van begins to drive.
Oh God. I can’t believe this is really happening.
Where are they keeping Beast?
Why isn’t he here in this van with me?
All I can think about is how much pain he must be in after getting zapped in the neck not once but twice. All for trying to protect me.
The guard keeps a watchful gaze on me, his hand on his gun at all times. There’s nothing I can do but sit and wait until we arrive. If I try anything, he’ll surely shoot me.
If they’ve found my father … there’s no reason for me to still be alive.
I gulp down the fear and focus on the sounds around me, the engine running, the wheels turning, the gravel underneath as we drive off. I focus on the road, the turns we make, and the sounds of the people and traffic outside.
It feels like an eternity has passed before the van finally stops.
A hand wraps around my arm and tugs me along violently, shoving me out of the van, before tearing the hood off my face.
I gasp in the oxygen while looking around.
We’re at a big warehouse near the docks. There’s a ton of noise all around us from ships and crew toiling about, large structures all around us, and my eyes can’t stop taking it all in.
Another car stops near the building, and Lex and a couple of his guards along with Beast step out of the vehicle. My heart skips a beat the moment our eyes connect.
“Move.” A guard pushes me so hard I almost fall down.
“Hey!” Beast growls at him.
“What?!” The guard barks back.
Lex looks at Beast with disdain, and he points at his pocket. “Remember who owns you.”
Beast’s nostrils flare, but he stays put, despite his muscles being tenser than before. I know he wants to help, but I don’t want to see him in pain either.
I swallow and walk forward to where the guard guides me, through the giant doors and into the warehouse. The place is barely lit, even though the sun is going down, and I have to open my eyes wide to see anything at all.
There are several rooms in the building, all stacked to the ceiling with boxes full of goods. Packages, marihuana, white powder, guns.
I swallow at the sight of so many illicit goods, wondering where the hell we are.
I’m shoved into a big room in the back, where there’s a desk and a computer, along with a couch and a bookcase filled with paper. An office.
“HMRR!?”
The sound of my father’s voice makes me turn my head.
He’s right there, on the other side of the office, strapped to a chair with a piece of cloth in his mouth.
“Papa!” I scream, and my muscles flinch as I try to run, but another guard stops me before my first step is taken.
Is this where he’s been hiding all this time? A warehouse?
Lex and all his guards as well as Beast come into the office too, and they all stand around him like it’s one big show and we’re the audience.
“Well, well, well … if it isn’t the fucking coward Blom,” Lex says, laughing out loud. “Finally found you, rat!” Lex circles him. “Not so pompous now, are we?”
Father keeps looking at me with bloodshed, teary eyes like I need to … save him.
His whole body is shaking, and there’s blood dripping down his forehead and legs.
They hurt him.
“Let him go,” I yell. “He needs medical attention.”
Lex pauses in his tracks and laughs. “You think I’d let him go? After searching for him for so long?” He shakes his finger at me. “You’re messing with the wrong guy, little girl.”
“GHMRRR!” my father screeches through the cloth again.
I wish I could take it off. I wish I could take all of the ropes around his body off and help him on his feet, so we could run away together. But a guard’s hands squeezing the blood out of my arm remind me what little power I have.
Lex grabs my father by the hair, tilting his head. “You thought we wouldn’t catch you?” He smacks my father right across the face. “I always get what I want.”
He smears some of the blood on my father’s clothes. “I’m so glad at least one of my guards was able to track you down.” Now he raises his eyes at Beast, and the intent glare doesn’t go unnoticed.
