I don’t know why she tries to fight me.

Doesn’t she feel the very same thing I do?

Veins pulsing with heat, desperate to find out why?

She whimpers again as my grip on her wrist grows tighter. “Please …”

And for some reason, it makes me pause.

I never pause.

Not with any of my victims.

But she … she’s not my victim.

She’s a prize.

And to hear her cry out like that stops me in my tracks.

I’ve never cared for any cries, but hers … they touch something in my body I didn’t know existed. As if it’s the very last thing on this goddamn earth I’d ever want to hear.

She gazes at me in awe, her eyes growing bigger and bigger as if she’s terrified of me, and I don’t like that look one bit.

Fear is the last thing I wanted to instill in her.

So I release her wrist and back away as slowly as I came, ensuring my movements don’t startle her. But when I’m back in my corner, she’s still frozen to the ground, staring at me like I’m the one man who will destroy whatever she has left.

And I don’t understand.

Because when we were in that hotel room, I saw her looking at me, my ripped body … the thick cock hiding in my pants. I know for a fact she wanted to touch it.

Just like I do every night.

And it took every ounce of my self-control not to take her up on that offer and feel her hands wrap around my dick.

Just like she offered and almost begged me to.

She wanted to please me.

So then why would she be scared of me now?

Aurora

I shudder in the corner, unable to move. Not because I’m terrified of what might happen to me, but also because of how close I let him come … and how impossible it suddenly became to breathe.

The second his hand touched my skin, my body reacted in a way I’ve never felt before.

Like all it wanted to do was give in.

Let this man touch me.

Sniff me.

Taste me.

I suck in a ragged breath.

No way can I let a man like him get close again.

Holy shit, that was intense.

My heart is still thumping in my throat just from him being mere inches away from me, sliding his fingers down my face. And now I’m not sure anymore whether my skin burns from the scrape or his touch.

Why did my body respond the way it did?

I want to shake it off, but I fear every move I make will backfire.

I don’t know how I got the courage to try to slap him.

Or where I got the idea that it would actually keep a savage like him at bay.

Because that’s just it … this man is no man. Even the guy he works for called him a beast.

And now I’m here, sharing a cell with this very same beast.

Good God. Things could not get any more difficult than they already are.

One moment, I’m trying to live the life Papa envisioned for me, and then the next, my house is destroyed, my father almost murdered, and I’m swept away by some rugged animal, brought to a mafia lord, and locked in a cage.

Tears well up in my eyes, but I wipe them away and tug at my gloves to ensure they stay on.

I have to figure out a way to get out of here.

But that beast in the corner keeps watching me, and something tells me he’s not going to let me escape that easily. He works for that mafia lord. Judging from the hawkish look in his eyes, he definitely won’t let me out of his sight.

And I don’t understand why … why he would do this to me?

Why he would bring me in front of his boss like that and then get me thrown in this cell?

And why is he locked up in here too?

I mean, I’m the daughter of that asshole’s enemy. Of course, Lex would want to keep me as collateral. Wait until my father shows up so they can negotiate. Use me as leverage. And I obviously won’t comply willingly.

But this beast … he’s in here with me like he deserves punishment too, and I don’t understand why.

I take a peek at his face, but it’s so hard to see in the darkness. All I can see are his eyes, his lips … and the giant scar on his face running from his brow to his chin. And for a second, I wonder what he had to go through to get that.

That’s when I notice an extra wound beside the other scar.

It’s fresh and bloody.

And it definitely wasn’t there before.

Someone did that to him. But when? And why?

My eyes lower down to his neck, realizing something is missing. The collar.

Stop caring so much. You’re going to get yourself killed.

I avert my eyes and try not to move, even though I’m shaking, and I don’t know if it’s from the cold or the way this guy looks at me.
