Clive snorted, then laughed out loud. “No, he’s not. But he’s not the only one who’s been interested in me for that reason alone.”

“So you’d rather be with someone who doesn’t find your beautifully round ass attractive?”

“No! I mean, it’s a part of me, and no matter how much I work out, it never changes, so I’d want my person to love it.” He lifted his hands to his overly hot cheeks. “I can’t believe we’re just sitting here in public talking about my ass.”

“I don’t care what anyone around us thinks. Far as I’m concerned it’s just you and me having a conversation, and I want to know all your feelings and thoughts. For the record, I do find that part of your anatomy appealing. Very. But I find all of you appealing. Even the way you get so excited over your tea blends.”

“That drove Andrew crazy.”

“Andrew’s a prick. I don’t want to talk about him anymore. I’m more interested in talking about you.” Bain leaned even closer, so close Clive could smell his subtle and fresh citrusy cologne. It fit him. Vibrant. Kind of zesty. He breathed it in and tried to hold it in his lungs because, as cheesy as it sounded, it made him feel like he was holding a part of Bain inside him. He let out a low snort at his own whimsical thoughts.

“What was that noise for?” Bain asked softly.

Clive looked at him, hating the glasses, and shrugged. “There’s not really a lot to talk about when it comes to me. I work. I clean. I like science fiction and romance books. You know all this. There’s nothing left.”

Bain surprised him when he reached up and ran his thumb over Clive’s bottom lip. He stroked it slowly, hypnotically, back and forth. “That’s where you’re wrong. I know there’s a lot more to Clive Manning. And if I didn’t think the company rules were important, I’d be doing everything in my power to find out every single bit.”

Chapter Nine

Clive

A week passed, and Clive spent a lot of time thinking about what Bain had said. That he wanted to know everything about him. That if it weren’t for his company’s rules, he’d want to be with him. That he liked his ass.

Bain didn’t touch him at all during that time, and he missed it so much it was screwing with his attempts to find out which of his clients was doing something illegal. Clive hadn’t found anything in the files so far to let him know who had threatened him, but he’d taken on so many new clients at once, it was just going to take time to dig into each company.

He and Bain had created a schedule of sorts. Him working in his office while Bain mostly read. They watched movies at night, and Clive had come to love that time together. Bain had turned out to be a warm and sometimes funny man who made Clive’s home so much less lonely.

But Clive knew his bodyguard had to be getting restless. He had come out of his office a few times to find Bain wandering around his house or running on the treadmill he had in the corner of the guest room.

Seeing Bain all sweaty and breathing hard had sent desire coursing through him so fast and hard he’d scurried back out of the room only to rub one out in the shower. Bain was the sexiest man he’d ever encountered. While he’d found his colorful clothes startling at first, now he’d come to realize they suited Bain. He looked forward to seeing what the man wore every day now. He was like a bright splash of color in Clive’s rather dull, gray world.

And he hadn’t realized just how gray he’d let that world become. He’d let fear rule his every move for his entire life, and he was damn sick of it. Maybe it was time to really work on that, to get out more like they had at the market. To have a life. A real one with actual people in it.

Mostly, he wanted to keep Bain in his life. He’d grown attached. And the man was only here as part of his job. But he was attracted to Clive. He’d not only said so, but Clive could see it in the way the man watched him. Could feel it, and it did surprise him. That someone so gorgeous, so…alive…could feel attraction to someone like him. But Bain kept things professional. Was it only because of his company’s rules? The need to know had a constant, low simmer of frustration building inside Clive because he wanted more. Wanted to know what it would be like to touch all that colorful fire.

But Bain wouldn’t be his bodyguard forever…

His thoughts would wander to images of what sex with Bain would be like, and he’d break out into a sweat. And end up taking another shower where he could take care of the raging erections that inevitably popped up.
