All the wanting and all the waiting…was finally over.

As he guided me backward to the bed, pieces of clothing left his body. His shirt disappeared, and my hands got to explore his chest. His boots were kicked aside, and then his jeans were torn off. Soon, I had his throbbing dick in my hand, and my thumb caught a drop that oozed from the tip.

He stripped me naked before he got me on the bed, my back to the mattress, my legs around his waist. This seemed to be his favorite position because he was always the one to initiate it. He directed his thick length inside me and was immediately met with a rush of viscous desire. It smoothed his entry, making him close his eyes briefly as he enjoyed it. “Sweetheart…” He sank until he was fully sheathed, reclaiming my body as his.

My fingers dug into his hair and I kissed him. “Babe, I’m sorry…”

He rocked his hips and started to move inside me, deep and even strokes, taking his time rather than fucking me hard into the mattress. He breathed against my mouth as he moved. “I know.”

LAURA

I’d momentarily forgotten the reason I came here in the first place.

He was on top. Then I was on top. We switched back and forth, and our rendezvous ended with my ass in the air at the edge of the bed. Back-to-back, with little conversation in between, we caught up on all the time we’d missed.

It was the first time I’d breathed easy in a week.

How could being with such a dangerous man make me feel complete?

We ended up in the shower, luxurious and spacious with its two showerheads. He rubbed the bar of soap over his chiseled body, making the soap bubble and lather until it streaked down his beautiful body. He was so tight, his muscles, his skin, the cords of his veins.

Talk about tall, dark, and handsome…

His eyes caught mine, watching me stare at him. “Is your sister okay?”

My predicament came tumbling back. “No. Apparently, Lucas broke her arm and bloodied her face pretty badly.” Maybe I would take one of Bartholomew’s guns and shoot Lucas in the stomach the second I saw him. “I gotta get her outta here. Or I gotta kill Lucas. Maybe both.”

“Your father did nothing?”

“Nope. Apparently, he’s too focused on some crisis he’s having.”

“He cared enough to call you.”

“He wasn’t the one who called,” I blurted without thinking.

Bartholomew was sure to draw the correct conclusion, but he didn’t react. He seemed more concerned about the wellbeing of my sister. “I’ll take care of it for you.”

“How?”

“However you want.” His dark eyes looked at me with utter calm, like he’d offered to pick me up a couple apples while he was at the market. “I can kill him. I can torture him. I can torture him and then kill him… Whatever you want.”

As tempting as that was, it wasn’t that simple. “It was one thing when you hurt Lucas, but if you kill him, my father will hunt you down with everything he has.”

A glimmer of a smile moved on to his lips. “Fine with me.”

“You would make your life complicated just for me?”

“Complicated is all I know,” he said. “I’m not sure how useful Lucas really is to your father anyway. The guys who hit their women are always cowards. Not exactly useful in the thick of things.”

“Well, my father thinks he’s useful.”

“Then your father has poor judgment. But you already knew that.” He finished with the shower then stepped out. He grabbed the towel and quickly rubbed down his body, catching the drops on his chest and legs before ruffling his hair with the cotton.

It was hard not to stare. I turned off the water and joined him. “I’m afraid my sister will never forgive me if I get him killed.”

“She doesn’t have to know it’s you. Or me, to be exact.”

“After I told everyone you hurt Lucas for me, they’ll figure it out.”

He secured the towel around his waist then looked at his appearance in the mirror, totally oblivious to how damn sexy he was. It was just another day for him. Another shave. “Then I can give him a warning.” He smeared the cream all over his face then began to shave, using a basic razor instead of an electric one. He was a rich man but one with simple taste. “A verbal warning.”

“And you think that’ll work?”

His eyes met mine in the mirror before he continued to shave his jawline.

Guess so. “You never told me why you’re in the city.”

He continued to shave, ignoring what I’d said.

I stared at his reflection in the mirror, pressing him to give me an answer.

He seemed to feel my gaze because he said, “Business.”

“I thought France was your territory.” He was the biggest distributor in France, and I knew who the biggest distributor was in Italy. My father had been the Skull King since I could remember. Being his daughter exposed me to things I shouldn’t have seen. Exposed me to information I shouldn’t have had—especially when I was only eleven years old.
