I feel like my luck is changing when I open the passenger side door of the SUV and step out of the way so Madison can climb inside.

I swear I get a little drunk watching the backs of her thighs and the way the hem of her dress flirts with the skin there.

“Are you sure this is—”

Her words fall away when I step in closer. Instead of spinning around and putting her feet on the floorboard, her legs fall open slightly to accommodate my size when I press closer to her.

The brush of her hand down my neck as her eyes stay locked on my lips is a little more intimate than I should probably be feeling in a parking lot, but I’m not in any position to question my luck right now.

Our lips meet, the warmth of hers not as familiar as they should be considering how much time I’ve spent thinking about that kiss in the hotel lobby back in Detroit. With as much as it’s been on my mind in the last couple of weeks, it should feel like coming home.

There’s nothing routine about the zing of energy that coats my skin, raising the hairs on the back of my neck when her fingers brush against me there.

It’s brand new and electric, the slide of her tongue against mine. As indifferent to my offer as I thought she was minutes ago in the bar, the low hum of approval tells a different story.

Her legs widen even further, and since I’m no idiot, I close that space too, pushing myself against the cradle of her body. The heat rolling off of her is addictive.

The sounds rumbling around in her chest as I wrap my arms around her is something I know I’ll hear for eternity in my deepest fantasies. They’re unmatched to anything I can pull from prior experiences.

It should be a red flag, a caution I should listen to, but there’s no way to pump the brakes now.

I press against her harder, loving the gasp that filters between us. I’m so ready, I could take her now. In seconds, I could be inside of her.

Leaning her back further, I wrap one arm around her to keep the center console of the SUV from digging into her back as I climb up on the side rail of the vehicle.

Before I can run my palm all the way down her leg to her knee, she’s lifting it higher, giving me more access to roll my hips once again.

She does nothing to stop me as I reach for the button and zipper on my jeans, a whimper of desire leaving her lips when the back of my hand brushes against her.

Looking down, I get lost in the sight of us. The bulge of my own erection couldn’t be hidden even if I tried, but that’s not what garners all my attention.

“Jesus,” I whisper.

Her dress has ridden all the way up, her silky panties revealed.

Her arousal leaves nothing to the imagination. The slickness of her desire has made her panties practically see-through, and it leaves me breathless.

“Chase,” she whispers in a pleading tone.

Laughter circles around us, and it becomes evident very quickly that Madison is much more in control of herself than I seem to be. It takes her shoving at my chest to make me realize this isn’t the best idea.

“Shit,” I say, stepping down from the side rail and pulling down her dress. “Sorry.”

She swallows as I look up at her, her hand going to her flushed throat. The last thing I need is someone snapping pictures of us going at it in the damn parking lot. It’s a scandal I don’t need right now, and I know it would be just one more thing Emily could add to her list of things she plans to use against me while asking for more money. It’s been two weeks since we made our offer, and I haven’t heard a word from her.

When Madison spins in her seat, locking her eyes straight ahead, I close the door and make my way around to the driver’s seat.

The atmosphere has cooled a little by the time I climb inside. Although I’m quick to crank the truck because it’s hot even if we weren’t just trying to climb inside of each other, I’m also a little reluctant to leave the parking lot just yet.

“You changed your mind?” she asks, her words directed at me even though she can’t seem to look at me.

“No,” I rush to tell her. “But I think we need some ground rules.”

She takes a deep breath. “Rules are good. I think I can follow rules.”

I don’t argue that what has already happened between us was something I lined out as violation of the contract I had her sign. Other than the kiss in Detroit, everything else has been instigated by me. Even that kiss was simply her acting on the lie I told everyone at the attorney’s office.
