That’s not a position a strong independent woman like myself has ever been in. Flawed or not, I still co-founded and ran a giant corporation. I hired and fired people. I spoke at conferences with thousands of important people watching. I pitched rich investors and convinced them to give me enormous sums of money. I didn’t take crap from anyone.

So, feeling like this… so vulnerable… so ready to please this man in any way I can… It feels so unlike me. So different. But the strangest part is, I like it.

I want to be his. I want to be in a relationship that’s deeper and more meaningful than anything else in my life. I want to go into that cabin and have my life change forever.

Warren finds the key hidden under a pot and he slides it into the lock. My heart is racing as he opens the door and we step inside.

The inside is adorable. I can imagine the Airbnb page full of five-star reviews from satisfied couples who enjoyed the cute kitchen with the brass pots and pans hanging over the island, the comfy couches in front of the stone fireplace, which was probably made of river rocks from a nearby creek, and the large windows that look out onto the private forest.

All of the walls are made of big logs and the smell of pine makes my soul so happy. This is what I needed. An escape in nature. A brief respite away from the horrible news segments and articles slamming me. A breather from the pain and anger I caused my family. A moment to think. A moment to breathe. A moment to indulge in pleasure.

My body tingles as I watch Warren disappear into the bedroom. This man fought lions for me. He chased down a plane. He carried me up a freaking mountain on his back.

All sorts of new feelings and emotions are rippling through me, picking up intensity as I look around. Everything is making me think of sex. The couch, the fireplace, hell, even looking at the small kitchen table has me picturing Warren swiping off plates and glasses with his big sexy arms and then throwing me down on top of it, spreading my legs as he—

“I’ll make a fire,” he says as he returns into the living room with clothes on. I’m disappointed that he’s covered up, but I have to admit that he looks really freaking good like this too. He’s wearing blue jeans and a navy blue collared shirt that buttons up the middle. I swallow hard as I look him over, wondering what’s going to happen next.

I wander around, turning the soft lights on and lighting candles as he kneels in front of the fire and grabs some logs from the basket.

I stop in my tracks and stare shamelessly from the kitchen as he slowly rolls up his sleeve, folding it over and over up his thick forearm. By the time he starts on his other arm, my body is throbbing with a lustful heat. This cabin is already heating up and the fire hasn’t started yet.

He’s so hot. It’s hard to keep my eyes off him. They keep darting over, finding something new to look at. Like his collarbone. I never knew a collarbone could be sexy, but my fingers are all tingly as I imagine running my hand over it. Or his hands. God, I love his hands. He breaks a few sticks and puts them under the logs. I swallow hard as I admire his knuckles and his fingers. Mmmmmm. That hand was wrapped around a neck of a lion for me and soon they’re going to be wrapped around my legs, spreading them open, bringing me to a place I could—

“Can you hand me the lighter?” he asks with his palm out.

I shake the lust out of my head and hurry over. “Yeah! Sure!”

He smiles at me, his eyes lingering on my blushing face for a long moment before he turns and lights the crumpled-up newspaper. The flames catch and the fire ignites the dry wood. He closes the glass door and stands up.

Wow. He’s so big. The top of my head comes up to his chin and I’m not a small girl. I’m usually one of the tallest people in any room I’m in.

The fire begins to roar as we stand in front of it. I’m staring up at him like a nervous teenager alone with her crush for the first time and not knowing what to do.

His beautiful green eyes are full of confidence and certainty as he gazes down at me.

“You’re spectacular,” he says with a long slow breath. “I’m so happy you’re my mate.”

“Really?” I say with my heart pounding. “I don’t think you’re going to feel that way once you know about my past.”
