“That takes care of the marriage,” I say. “Anyone else want to tell me that my mate is not mine?”

The three lion shifters don’t look as eager to fight. They had a taste of my bear last night and now that they know he’s fighting for his mate, they don’t want any part of it.

“She’s not yours!” McCormick screeches as he steps forward incensed, his face flushed with rage.“She’s mine! I paid for her! Ten million dollars for a virgin wife! That was the deal! You better not have defiled her. That’s my pussy to claim!”

My grizzly explodes forward with a rabid roar. I can’t hold him back. Not after hearing this asshole saying her pussy belongs to him. He charges forward like a volcano erupting, bursting out of me in a violent murderous rage.

I’ve never seen him like this. I know he’s going for the kill.

I don’t stand in his way or try to hold him back. As long as this man is alive, my Daisy will be in danger and I can’t have that. Any threat to her must be quickly and decisively eliminated.

I stand down as my grizzly charges up to the cowering man with a savage roar. McCormick is frozen in fear as my bear swipes his vicious claws. They slice through his throat.

The billionaire clutches his bloody jugular with wide eyes as he falls to his knees. The blood pours out between his fingers as the life leaves his body.

He collapses to the ground, dead.

My bear paces protectively in front of our mate as he turns his ferocious eyes onto Coco and her guards.

Coco barely flinches as she looks at McCormick’s dead body. “I guess we can consider this situation resolved. We received McCormick’s payment and you received yours, Miss Douglas.”

I pull my bear back in and he reluctantly lets me phase back into my human form.

“You still owe me,” I say when I come back out.

She raises her chin as those icy blue eyes stare me down. I can tell she wants to argue. It’s the ruthless businesswoman in her. She doesn’t want to hand over a penny without a fight.

Her eyes dart to the dead body and she swallows hard. “Very well. You’ll have the million dollars in your bank account by the end of the day, Mr. Hensley.”

“Good. Once the money is in my bank account, we can consider this resolved.”

She gives me a curt nod and then orders the lion shifters to gather McCormick’s body before she turns and marches back into the jet.

They all keep one eye on me as they pick up the body and carry him to the plane.

“No, ew,” I hear Coco say when they try to bring him inside the cabin. “You’re going to get blood all over the carpet for God’s sake. Put him in the cargo area.”

Snoops is still tearing the contract apart as they load the body in and eventually take off.

I follow the jet until it disappears into the sky.

If they ever come back, I vow to myself. I’ll kill them all.

No one is going to threaten my mate again.

I turn to my girl and smile. “You’re free.”

She runs toward me with tears in her eyes and leaps into my arms. I hold her tight as she nuzzles her face into my neck and squeezes me back.

“Thank you, Warren,” she whispers. “You’re the best thing to ever happen to me.”

I bury my nose in her brown hair and breathe in the fruity scent. “You’re the best thing to happen to me too.”

We grab the mangled contract from Snoops and bring it over to the fire pit. Daisy has a huge smile on her face as she douses it with lighter fluid and then lights it up. I can see the relief on her face as the flames consume it.

It’s over. Her family got their money, McCormick is dead, my barn will be rebuilt, and I’ll even have enough money left to take my girl somewhere nice on vacation. We both need it.

We hold hands as we walk to the house. I’ve never felt so relieved. So happy. I feel like—

My bear growls inside, interrupting my thoughts.

Mark her, he snarls. Now.

Maybe it’s not over yet… There’s still something left to do before she’s completely mine.

My mark is still not on her neck.

Chapter Ten

Warren

“The whole roof will have to be changed,” the contractor says as we walk around the inside of the barn. The money came through from the auction house and the first thing I did was call him. I want the renovations done before the winter so the freaking roof doesn’t cave in under all that snow.

“That part looks okay,” he mutters to himself as he scribbles something on his notepad.

“Hi,” Daisy says when she comes in.

The contractor smiles politely at her and it sets my bear off. Out of nowhere, he turns into a rabid beast, snarling and charging for the surface. He’s trying to get out and maul this man. I can feel his anger, his frustration, his rage.
