“I’m not going with you,” I say as I plant my feet and yank my arm away from him.

Lincoln narrows his fierce dark eyes on me. He’s tall and muscular. I don’t stand a chance of physically overpowering him, but I don’t care. I don’t want to go and he needs to know it.

“You’re my wife now,” he hisses with an evil grin. “And you’ll do as I say.”

He’s loving this. I can see the enjoyment on his fifty-five-year-old face. He wants power over me. He’s going to torment me for the rest of my life if I get on that plane.

“No, I won’t.”

He steps forward and grabs my arm with a steel grip.

A vicious roar rips through the night sky. It sends chills snaking down my spine. I turn with a gasp when I see an enormous grizzly bear emerging from the forest. He charges right at us.

His massive paws thunder against the ground as he rushes toward us with a nasty snarl. Those fierce golden eyes are locked on Lincoln. He pulls me in front of him like a human shield as the bear races across the field. He’s so fast. So big.

For some reason, I don’t feel any fear. Maybe I’d rather be quickly mauled by a bear than live through the slow torture of being forced to be Lincoln McCormick’s wife. Or maybe it’s something else. It feels like something else. It feels like he’s coming to save me.

I don’t get to find out because three golden blurs cut across the valley and intercept him with savage roars. One of the lions leaps onto his back, another swipes at his neck—narrowly missing—and the last one—the largest one—plants in front of him with a murderous growl.

I step forward as my heart aches. I want to help him, but there’s nothing I can do against three lions. I can’t even seem to help myself.

The bear shakes the lion off his back and the big cat flies off with a yowl.

“Let’s go!” Lincoln hisses as his grip tightens on my arm. He yanks me toward the row of private jets and starts moving fast. I try to slow him down, but he’s so strong and ends up practically dragging me.

I keep spotting the bear in the middle of the vicious brawl. At one point there are two lions on his back and one is biting into his shoulder. The next time I look, both lions are on the ground and the bear is on top of the third one.

Those golden eyes spot me as Lincoln drags me up the steps into the jet. I scream out as I grab onto the railing.

“Shut up, bitch,” he growls as he wraps his arms around my waist and yanks me off. He’s so strong that he picks me up and wrestles me into the plane even though I’m trying to grab onto anything I can. My eyes are on the bear, pleading with it to help.

His fierce eyes narrow and he sprints forward with a roar that shakes me to my bones. The three lions regroup in front of him, but he charges right through them like a bowling ball slamming into pins.

“Wheels up now!” Lincoln barks to the two pilots as he drags me inside the cabin.

“The stewardess is having a smoke outside,” one of them says.

“Leave her!” he shouts as he slams the door to the cockpit closed. He grabs the stairs, pulls them up, and closes the outer door, trapping me inside.

I look around for a weapon as the plane starts moving. I spot the grizzly bear getting closer outside. He’s running toward the plane with all his might. So, is the stewardess, but she’s not going very fast in her heels.

Lincoln ducks to look at the bear through the window. This is my chance…

I grab the neck of a huge champagne bottle and smash it on his head as hard as I can. He collapses onto the leather seat in an explosion of shattered glass and bubbly champagne.

He’s unconscious, but I still give him a hard kick in the ribs anyway. “Asshole,” I mutter under my breath.

The plane is picking up speed as it turns onto the dirt runway.

I yank the door to the cockpit open and the two pilots jerk their heads back in surprise.

“Stop the fucking plane,” I scream at them.

I must be a sight to behold. I’m breathing heavily with crazy eyes while wearing a long fancy pink gown that’s covered in champagne. My hair is a wild mess and I’m gripping the neck of the broken bottle and frantically waving the sharp end in the air. I don’t know how I got such a high bid.

“Where’s Mr. McCormick?” one of the pilots says as he tries to look past me. I step forward and put the broken glass to his neck.
