I’d be blind and castrated not to notice she’s fucking gorgeous.

And every day, I’m becoming more aware of her beauty.

Fine, so you’re attracted to Mila. So what? It’s not like anything will ever come of it. Stick to flirting with her because that’s as far as you can take things without fucking up your friendship.

My thoughts turn to the past month, and I remember how teasing the ever-loving shit out of Mila was only for fun.

And for fun, it will remain, Jase.

Needing a drink, I get the attention of a waiter and quickly place an order.

My eyes drift back to Mila, and I watch as she cuts a piece from her steak. Her hands are small and probably half the size of mine.

Something stirs in my chest again, and my eyes narrow at the foreign emotion.

I wonder what would’ve happened if she weren’t my friend.

The sudden thought packs one hell of a punch.

Yeah, I know what would’ve happened. Without thinking twice about it, I’d pursue her.

“Jase,” Mila snaps, and my eyes fly up to her face. “Why are you staring at me like that?”

I clear my throat and shift uncomfortably in my chair. “I’m not staring at you.”

“Could’ve fooled me,” she mumbles. Her eyes linger on my face for a couple of seconds. “It really looked like you wanted to kill me. Are you that worried about working at CRC?”

Taking the out she’s unknowingly given me, I nod. “Yeah, it’s a lot of pressure to know I’ll be taking over as the CEO of CRC Holdings. I don’t know how my dad handles it.”

“You’ll be fine.” Mila’s mouth curves into a soft smile, one I haven’t seen in a while. “I believe in you.”

My heart starts to beat faster, and a cold sweat breaks out over my body. Shifting my chair back, I climb to my feet. “Shit, I think I’m coming down with something. I’ll see you at the suite.”

Fallon abandons her meal and jumps out of her chair. “The flu? I’ll walk back with you and get you some meds.”

“Don’t worry. I’m just going to sleep it off.”

I stalk out of the restaurant, my heart hammering against my ribs, and placing my hand over my chest, I suck in a deep breath of air.

What the fuck is going on with me?

It’s probably just a cold.

I will my heartbeat back to normal and shove all thoughts of Mila to the farthest corner of my mind. I’m sure I’ll be fine tomorrow. I just need a good night’s rest.

Chapter 4

MILA

Worried about Jase, I knock on his door.

“Yeah?”

Pushing the door open, I peek inside. “How are you feeling?”

His eyes snap from his laptop to me. “Better. Thanks.”

I take in his features, looking for any signs that he’s not feeling well. “You sure? You didn’t look too hot earlier.”

A grin spreads over his face. “Babe, I always look hot.”

I roll my eyes. “Yep, you’re definitely fine.”

I begin to pull the door shut, then Jase calls out, “Glad you’re finally admitting it.”

Shaking my head, I walk to my own room. I grab my pajamas, which basically consist of sweatpants and a t-shirt, and go shower.

When I’m done washing and drying off, I lather my body with my lily scented lotion. Searching for my panties, I let out a huff when I realize I didn’t bring any. I quickly wrap a towel around me and dart back into my room. Seeing Jase lying on my bed, I come to a sudden stop.

His eyebrows pop up, and his gaze sweeps over my body.

Gripping the towel tighter, I snap, “Dude, come on. What happened to personal space?”

He shakes his head and plasters an innocent look over his face. “I’m nowhere near your personal space.” Then he climbs off the bed and saunters closer to me. His eyes drop to the towel. “By the way, I love your PJ’s.”

“Ha-ha.” I go to my walk-in closet and grab a pair of cotton panties. Turning around, I come face to face with Jase, who followed me inside. Even though my heart skips a beat and there’s a flutter in my stomach, I force a scowl to my face. “Do you mind?”

His grin turns seductive as he slowly shakes his head. “Not at all.”

I know myself, and I’m reaching the point of no return at the speed of light. If Jase were to try anything, I wouldn’t be able to stop him, and I’d give in.

I can’t keep doing this with him, though. It hurts when he dangles the damn carrot in front of my face, and I know I can never have it.

The scowl on my face is replaced with a serious look as I say, “This has to stop, Jase.”

He tilts his head. “What?”

“This thing you’re doing,” I say, and when he takes a step closer to me, I begin to feel panicky. I can’t let him find out how I feel about him. I’d just die of embarrassment.
