Mia and I spend lots of time together at my place, but it’s different when Uncle Dix is there. Even if he stays in his bedroom and watches hockey on his tablet, it’s hard to set a romantic mood when there’s an old guy yelling, “Cocksucker!” every five minutes. Or worse, grumbling that he needs to “drain the main vein.”

Alexei is in charge of all that, starting tonight until noon tomorrow. He’s got a date tomorrow night with a flight attendant he met on the flight here. Wastes no fucking time, that one.

I’m about to climb the stairs to Mia’s building when a male voice calls out to me. I turn to see Troy Walker, a Chicago sports reporter.

“Hey, man,” I say, extending my hand for a handshake. “How’s it going?”

“Are those flowers for Mia Marceau?”

I meet his eyes and exhale hard. “What do you want, Troy?”

He gestures at Mia’s building. “You’re standing outside Mia Marceau’s apartment with a bouquet. Sources have told me your relationship with her is the reason Adam Marceau was released from the team.”

“Again,” I say in a level tone, “what do you want?”

“Is it true? Can I get an exclusive?”

Fucking vulture. I’ve given him every interview he’s ever asked for. Even gave him my cell number in case he needed to reach me in a pinch.

“If you want to talk to me about hockey, I’m game anytime,” I say.

“But an affair with a teammate’s wife that he gets released over is about hockey.”

I want to say many things, but I’ve been burned in the past by having things taken out of context, and I’m careful now.

“If you need anything from me, you’ll need to go through the front office,” I say.

“Come on,” Troy says. “Can I just get confirmation you and Mrs. Marceau are in a relationship?”

It grinds my fucking gears hard to hear him call her that. He must notice, because he takes a step back and puts his hands in the air.

“Okay. I’ll just wait and ask her instead.”

I shake my head and look away. I know Mia can handle herself against this punk, so I climb the stairs and leave Troy behind.

When I get to the second floor and knock, Mia opens the door right away and my aggravation fades away. I pass her the flowers and she smiles.

“They’re beautiful, thank you.”

She brings the bouquet to her nose, closes her eyes and inhales the scent. Damn, she’s beautiful. As I step inside, I lean down and kiss her. Her lips taste soft and sweet—I immediately want more. And then I know I’ll want more after that, too.

Better not dry fuck her in her front doorway, though. I pull away and see that her eyes are sparkling with happiness.

“Hey, there’s a reporter in front of your building,” I say as she closes and locks the door.

“Oh shit, really?”

“Yeah. He’s asking about us and if our affair is the reason Adam’s ass is in Europe now.”

Mia sighs heavily.

“You know what to do if he asks you questions, right?” I ask.

“Tell him to suck my tit?”

I grin. “Yeah, no.”

“Kiss my fat black ass?”

“Mmmm, might not wanna say that.”

She arches a brow in amusement. “Okay. I’ll just tell him to fuck off.”

“Repeat after me.” I approach her and put my hands on her waist. “No comment.”

“No fucking comment, dickweed.”

I tighten my hold on her waist and pull her closer. “No. Comment.”

Her eyes widen as she looks up at me. “No comment, mother—”

I silence her smart mouth with a kiss, pulling her hips toward mine. My cock, thick and hard already, presses against her belly. The way she sighs into my mouth when she feels it makes me want to rip her clothes off right here and now.

She pulls away and says, “Okay, I think I see what you mean.”

“It’s just…different with me than it was with Adam. I’m the captain and first line center.”

She nods. “I know. You’re the star of the team.”

“I don’t mean it like that. I’m just…more high profile, I guess.”

“I promise I won’t comment.”

“It’s better for both of us to say nothing and refer all comments to the team PR people.”

“Done. Now let me put these in some water,” she says as she lifts the flowers a few inches into the air. When she brushes the fingertips of her free hand across her plump, still-wet lips, it’s all I can do not to throw the fucking flowers on the ground and grab her.

While she’s getting a vase and some water, I get ahold of myself. It takes thoughts of elderly nuns holding kittens to calm my erection. I hope Mia and I will get to a place where we fuck like rabbits as soon as we see each other sometimes, but for now I want to be a gentleman.

“You want me to order some Chinese for dinner?” I ask.
