Then, because I was super angry at the world in general, I went back to eating my food in order not to say anything else.

Letting him know I might have a UTI, even though I sure as fuck didn’t, had been kind of embarrassing.

So I said things in the heat of the moment that were slightly embarrassing. I could have worse faults.

Like chewing on my toenails. Or not wiping well enough.

I was so intent on ignoring him that his sudden movement startled me.

He threw his leg over the side of the boat and stalked toward me.

I felt my heart start to pound all intense like, my eyes going wider and wider with a spoonful of cheesecake suspended halfway to my mouth.

The closer he got, the more I felt the butterflies in my belly start to stir.

Anytime I was around this man, things happened to me that hadn’t happened with any other man.

He stopped directly in front of me, took the spoon out of one hand, the bowl out of the other, and tossed them down on the picnic table I was sitting on.

With a vicious yank, I was in his arms.

With a twist of my hair in his hand, he brought his mouth to mine.

Then he kissed me.

As in, kissed me, kissed me.

There was tongue. There were teeth. There was gasping.

And then he was gone.

I panted, my eyes wide, as I stared into his brown ones.

They were sparkling with something that I’d never read in them before.

Possession.

“Cherry cheesecake,” he growled.

I swallowed hard at the intensity in his eyes.

How had I ever thought he didn’t want me? Because there was no missing it now.

With only half a breath of time to stare into his eyes before he was once again kissing me, there was no way I could misconstrue what the kiss was about.

Possession.

It was more than obvious that the moment our lips touched, he now considered me his.

I pressed into him further, my hands going to his muscular shoulders and curling to come to his hair at the nape of his neck.

Delving my fingers into it, I pressed deeper into his kiss. Which was about when I felt the hard ridge of his arousal at the apex of my thighs.

He was long and thick, and the thinness of his shorts hid absolutely nothing of his well-endowed self from me.

We both pulled back, panting and out of breath, and looked at each other for a few long seconds. Then we were at it again.

My ass hit the top of the picnic table I’d once been enjoying my meal at.

I heard the bowl and the spoon hit the dock but didn’t move to save the delicacy.

There were only a few things in this world better than cherry cheesecake. And apparently, Cassius’s kiss was one of them.

“I’m so sorry I’m late,” Coran apologized as he came over to us at the picnic table and cupped my arm.

I heard his voice and flinched away, and the man at my front didn’t miss it.

He pulled me back by my belt loop, his eyes narrowed on Coran.

“Mine,” he growled at Coran.

I felt my heart start to pound a million miles an hour.

His?

Mine?

What?

“There are customers,” Coran said.

I looked over to see two old fishermen shooting the shit by the front door. But neither one looked in a hurry.

“There might be,” I said. “But A, I asked you to go home. And B, I’m still on break. Which they know.”

Coran narrowed his eyes at me.

But it was Cassius who said, “I think it’s time to go,” that had Coran stiffening up.

“Fine.” He shot me a look. If looks could kill, I’d be rotting in a morgue right about now. “I’ll see you tomorrow.”

Ugh.

He would.

It wasn’t until he was mostly out of sight that Cassius said, “That kid gives me the creeps.”

“For once, we agree.” I felt my face flush in reaction to his gaze. I looked down to see that one brave seagull had taken the chance to eat what was left of my food.

There’d been half a slice left.

Damnit.

I picked up the bowl and spoon, then set them on the table that would forever make me blush. Then walked to the pump and started filling up Cassius’s boat.

Only when it was done was I brave enough to say, “That shouldn’t have happened.”

Cassius snorted and hopped onto his boat. “Whatever you say, darlin’.”

I narrowed my eyes at him. “Why are you looking at me like that?”

“Like what?” he asked, moving closer.

I took a step back and shook my head, lifting my hand up and warding him off. “Like you’re about to make a bad decision.”

“Bad decisions are fun,” he teased. “Try it. You’ll like it.”

I knew I would. That was the problem.

“I don’t have the energy for that. Or you,” I admitted.

His lips quirked. Then he sobered. “Are you okay?”
