“It’s been a couple days boss, maybe they just put it together. Either way I’ll do a search and see if one of ours crossed over.”

“You do that Clay.” I hung up the phone none too pleased with this turn of events. I’m not too fond of assholes, and this guy is one of the biggest in our town, hateful fuck. I especially didn’t want him on my property, so the sooner I got out there and deal with his ass the better.

“Brand, where’s your girl?” I made the call after I’d made myself decent.

“Stashed.”

“You cool?”

“As a cucumber. She’s not going anywhere Law.”

“Don’t be stupid, I know that. Where are they?”

“The boys are holding them outside the gate.”

“Good, I’m on my way, stand down until I get there.” The hardheaded fuck hung up.

It looked like the old man brought out every warm body he had. The hate brigade was lined off in front of my gate like they were out for war. My guys weren’t looking too shabby themselves, arrayed as they were in formation.

I am always thinking ahead so my mind went to, if all the men were here, then the women and children were on their own back at the compound. One thing I’d learned in the army, never leave your flank unprotected, it could leave you open to a whole lot of fuckery.

I pulled my phone and texted what I wanted done. They’d do the rest. I pocketed my phone and took in the scene before me.

“Something I can do for you?” I stepped to the grandfather because I had no real interest in dealing with his lackeys.

“Yes you can give me back what’s mine.”

“I don’t follow, what is it that you think I have that belongs to you?”

“Don’t play games with me boy, you know exactly what I’m talking about.”

If I weren’t stalling for time I’d shoot the fuck and be done with it. “I’m not your boy. Now tell me what the fuck you’re after or get off my land.” His boys started shifting around like they were getting restless, but my crew knew to hold their position.

I wasn’t in the least worried about them. I knew most of the cowards from high school. A bunch of low life deadbeats, which most of these factions were usually made up of. If they were expecting us to fall back they were in for a rude awakening. I’d be fucked if I’d ever run scared from the likes of them.

By rights this should be Brand’s deal, but I didn’t know how much the old ass knew about the situation, and there was no sense tipping our hand out of turn. Besides, I wanted them to know that Brand wasn’t standing alone here, that if they fucked with my boy it would be their ass.

I kept him talking back and forth, waiting for that signal from my guys so I could tell him to get fucked.

I didn’t hear half of what the fuck said, just enough to learn that he thought we were giving his granddaughter some kind of sanctuary. He didn’t know about the baby or the rest of it, not yet anyway.

When that signal finally came I was about at the end of my rope with his shit. I’m not sure, and never have been, just how these hacks get people to sign on for their shit. The man was spewing more bullshit that a leaky septic tank. Asshole.

“You know, you would’ve done a lot better if you hadn’t allowed the coloreds and wetbacks to join up.” He spat on the ground near my foot like that outdated shit was gonna get a rise outta me.

“Time’s up. Get the fuck gone and don’t come back. If I ever see you or any of these brainless fucks on my place again, I’m gonna shoot first and ask questions later.”

“Boy I hope you know what you’re getting yourself into. I don’t take kindly to being disrespected. Now I’ve made allowances because of your family troubles, but don’t take that for softness.”

Is this asshole for real? “I don’t need any favors, any time you feeling froggy, jump. Now like I said, you and your band of rednecks keep it moving, I don’t want anyone mistaking this for something that it ain’t.”

“You’d do well to have me as a friend boy, I make a terrible enemy.” I was sick of his threats and the glow from my woman’s loving had worn off dealing with this shit, so I was back to feeling mean.

I pulled my phone again and typed in one last order. “I don’t deal with idiots, they take way too much time and effort. There’s no cure for fuck stupid and you’ve got a terminal case, dumb fuck.” I turned to head back inside because we were pretty much done for now anyway.
