"Something you wanted?" I teased her playfully as I slid down on the bed with her in my arms, pulling her carefully onto my chest. She laughed and wrapped her arms around my neck, pulling my lips up to hers. "Gimme!"

CREED

It's been hours since we've been waiting for Mancini to call, and I could tell that Colt was getting twitchy. We haven't been able to slip away to talk because Law's distrusting ass has had us in the crosshairs all afternoon.

All the same from all the private phone calls Colt's been making, I'm guessing he's got something going. Law finally disappeared in his bedroom with his wife and kid, and that was my cue to make my escape.

Lyon seemed to have the same idea because he snagged me as soon as the coast was clear. "You, nap time." My girl frowned at me but had the good sense to march her ass down the hallway to the guestroom where we were staying after I gave her a smooch.

She's come into her own in the last year or so since we got hitched. Gone was the well-behaved young miss who barely spoke above a whisper, and in her place is my harridan. She runs circles around my ass day in and day out and my place has become her stomping ground, she runs my shit.

Now that she has a crew of women to back her plays, my shit is even more fucked. But I'll never forget that it was these women who'd sounded the alarm when her aunt and that asshole were tormenting her. So as long as whatever they were up to didn't involve her getting hurt, I'm good.

I waited to hear the door close and turned to see Lyon signaling me. He whispered some shit to his wife, who seemed to be joined to him at the hip before heading for the door.

"I know that look, what you got?"

"I have an idea. The whole idea is to keep Law in the clear when this shit goes down, right? I thought of calling in the SEALs, but they can't get here in time, so I'ma hit up my boy Travis. You remember him. He's Mancini's cousin…"

"Yeah, yeah, I remember, the one whose dad put us on to Mancini."

"That's him; he and I were cool before I even knew that spook fuck existed."

"What's the plan?" I had to get him back on track because nothing derails him worst than Mancini.

"So here's what I'm thinking. Since the sheriff has it in for our guy, he's not gonna take anyone around here's word for it if something goes down. So we need to be somewhere with lots of eyes on us. I'm thinking that diner in town. It might be a stretch to get everyone on board, but we'll think of something that won't tip Law off."

"Sounds good so far, but we still don't know where this guy is. How long will it take your boy to get here?"

"He should be heading out soon. I'm pretty sure we'll be hearing from Mancini any minute now, nosy fuck."

"Why do you have such a hard-on for this guy?"

"Because he's up to some shit with my kid, probably trying to recruit her for one of his fucked-up schemes."

"Speaking of fucked-up schemes, I'm amazed at the way your mind works. We need to fine-tune this shit though, make sure there're no loose ends."

"I'm way ahead of you there, brother. I just have to put a bug in Kat's ear and get the ball rolling. The only problem is Law's woman just gave birth, so she shouldn't be going anywhere, so we have to figure some shit out."

We both got lost in thought under the hot afternoon sun, and it wasn't long before we were joined by his boys. It was obvious that they knew what he was up to because Jared jumped right in. "So it's only Law that needs to be seen, right?"

"I'm thinking his whole crew, that way no one can speculate shit. What are you thinking?"

"Instead of us going somewhere, why don't we have the sheriff come out here?"

"The fuck…wait, wait, that's not a bad idea. Lemme think."

Lyon paced back and forth before coming back to us. "We're gonna need Kyle or Travis with us on this."

"Which Travis? I'm confused as fuck."

"The one that's here, Creed, his cousin, you fuck."

"Okay, we'll just call your boy Mallory from now on so as to avoid any confusion." He's one testy fuck.

He disappeared inside the house and came back with both of them in tow. "Where's Law?" I looked behind them, not trusting that he wouldn't appear and put a wrench in the works. I totally understand his stance, wanting to take care of this guy himself.

But after all the shit that had gone down in the last year, it was too messy. Colt is right, this isn't our backyard, and though we've been back and forth here a lot lately, no one's had us in their crosshairs. Not sure how long that's gonna last, though.
