"I can't believe you pulled this off," Avery said, holding Kane close as they danced together on the makeshift dance floor covering half of La Bella Luna. Seventy-five of their closest family and friends were gathered for Avery's surprise fiftieth birthday party.
"So you were surprised?" Kane grinned, proud of his accomplishment. It was a rare day to get anything past Avery Adams—especially when he lived in the same house—yet somehow he'd made this surprise happen. They were dancing to "Your Song" by Elton John. Avery always called it their song. Kane wasn't sure they had an official song, but Avery always said this particular tune reminded him of them. The slow melody allowed for intimate moments, while still being appropriate in front of their family and children. Kane suspected that was more than likely the true reason Avery chose this song as theirs.
"I must be slipping in my old age," Avery shot back, waggling his eyebrows.
"Yeah right!" Kane snorted. "You're sharper than ever. This wasn't easy for me to keep secret. You made me work for it."
"I can't believe I didn't figure it out when you made me wear a tux to the theater," Avery said, swaying to the music.
"You know I love you in this tux." He grinned up at Avery. Age had been kind to his husband, Kane loved the sprinkling of gray hair just beginning to show and how the fine lines formed around the corner of Avery's eyes as he beamed back at him.
"I was just thinking I was gonna get lucky tonight if I wore it. I was surprised it still fits." Avery drew Kane closer, and Kane laid his head on Avery's shoulder. "How does it feel to be married to a fifty-year-old?" Avery finally asked. Kane lifted his head, mischief in his eyes.

"My original plans for the night were to put the children to bed early and show you what someone of my advanced age could still do to a body like yours. Since, those plans have changed, and this is the first few minutes I've had alone with you, I think you need to lay your head back on my shoulder, whisper how much you love me into my ear, and remember your day is just around the corner."
