“Fine by me.” He shoots me a wide smile.

We could’ve found out when I was twenty weeks, but with the hospital being an hour away and a severe case of morning sickness that day, I ended up canceling my appointment. Since there’s only one radiologist available, I had to wait for the next opening, which is today.

“Have you thought of any names?” I ask him when we finally hit the highway.

“Not really. Unless you like Bruno?”

I furrow my brows at him and curl my lip in response.

“That’s what I figured. Then nope. Have you?”

“A few, but nothing that’s really stuck.”

“Well, we have some time to figure it out.”

“I guess, but it’s going to fly by quick. We have less than three months left. But knowing the gender will help. Then we only have to brainstorm for one gender.”

“My money’s on it being a boy.” He looks over at me and grins.

“Well, knowing my luck, and the fact you have three brothers, I wouldn’t take that bet.” I chuckle. “Probably is another wild Bishop boy.”

“Yee-haw!” Alex shouts.

We arrive at my appointment with five minutes to spare and end up getting in right away. I’m so anxious I can barely contain myself. I’ve also had to pee for the last half hour, but having a full bladder helps get the best images.

“Doctor Granger asked for some measuring stats, and once I get those, we’ll take some pictures of your baby, okay?” the tech tells us as I settle into the seat.

Alex sits next to me, holding my hand and eagerly watching the screen that’s hung on the wall across from us.

“The detail is unreal,” he whispers. I smile and nod. It really is.

“That’s definitely a Bishop nose,” I say, laughing.

The tech continues measuring the head, heart, and length of the body. When an ultrasound is performed at twenty weeks, it’s a little easier to measure everything, but itching close to seven months means the baby has less room to stretch.

“I think I see it,” Alex announces, narrowing his eyes on the screen. “Yup, it’s definitely a boy!”

The ultrasound tech pulls her lips in to hide a smile, but I can’t.

“That’s a leg, you fool!” I laugh so hard, the tech has to stop the wand until my stomach stops moving.

“Oh, come on,” he groans. “Here I thought I produced a legend.”

I snort and take a deep breath, so the tech can continue.

“This is why I can’t take you places,” I tease.

He smirks and flashes another wink. Hell. Doesn’t he know what those do to me? Or shit, maybe he does, and that’s his plan.

After another five minutes, the tech tells us she’s finished measuring everything. I see the heart beating rapidly and smile. “Everything looks okay?”

I know she’s technically not supposed to say anything since the doctor has to look at the scans first, but she flashes me a grin that reveals what I need to know.

“Everything looked really great.”

“So what’s the gender?” Alex asks, looking back and forth between me and the screen.

“You really wanna find out? Are you sure?”

“I do, but only if you want to.”

I bite down on my lip, contemplating, but decide I do want to know. “Yeah, let’s find out!”

The tech moves the wand around until we can see between the legs, and as soon as the baby shifts a little, I see it.

“You see the baby’s two legs moving right there?” I point to one side of the screen as we get a view from behind the baby.

“Yeah?” He tilts his head.

“See that thing between it?”

The tech snaps a pic and freezes the frame.

“Wait…” Alex says, narrowing his eyes. “Is that a—”

“That’s a penis!” the tech blurts out.

“It’s a boy? It’s a boy!” Alex jumps out of his seat still holding my hand. My head falls back, laughing at how excited he is right now. “I knew it!”

“Yes, you did.” I smile.

He leans down and cups my face before pressing his lips to mine. It’s not a quick kiss like we’ve been sticking to, but one that lingers. It’s sweet and passionate, and if we didn’t have an audience right now, I’d be tempted to deepen the kiss.

Once we break apart, the tech prints out the pictures and tells us congratulations.

“Thank you,” I say before she walks out of the room to give us privacy.

“I can’t believe it.” Alex sighs.

I grab my clothes so I can change.

“Okay, but we aren’t naming him Bruno,” I warn.

He snorts, giving me one of his irresistible looks. “We’ll see.”

Once we’re back in the truck, I snap pictures of the ultrasound photos with my phone so I can send them to Natalie and my mom. I add the words “I’m a boy!” to the message and hit send. I promised to keep them updated as much as I can, but there’s always so much going on, I often forget. I want to surprise Alex’s family and tell them in person.
