“We’re going to pay him a visit at the apartment building now.” I check my watch and it’s already nine, so by the time we get there it will be around ten, so hopefully my woman will still be asleep and won’t catch us leaving.
“Understood.” I stand and slide my suit jacket back on, trying to put all this together. Coleman and Johnson will have a lot to answer for very soon by the look in Dario’s eyes.
He leaves my office swiftly while I try to keep up, but he’s on a fucking mission. I would be, too, if June had been the object of some creep’s obsession. Speaking of my obsession, I peer over to where she was sitting, and she’s no longer there. Suddenly, the door to her bedroom closes.
“Don’t worry about her,” Dario says. “She’s safe here.”
I nod and follow him outside. “So what’s the plan?”
“We’re going to ransack the place. If he’s there, we’ll dispose of him. If he’s not, we’ll find him and dispose of him, but first we get answers.” He smirks, and I know that look. The devil has spoken, and nothing will stop Dario tonight. Success will be ours.
“Sounds good to me.” I’m down for whatever he has planned.
By the time I return home, the landlord isn’t a problem for my woman and her roommates.

It’s the next morning, and I have no intention of letting her spirit herself off back to her apartment, spending the entire weekend away from me again. Today she is staying, even if I have to kidnap her ass.
“Good morning, Alessio.” She passes by me and sees the coffee brewing, giving me a whiff of her shampoo.
“Morning, sweet rose.”
“You made the coffee. You don’t like the way I make it?”
“I needed to be out of the house early, and you’ll be working here today.”
“What? Is this because of yesterday?”
“What do you mean?”
“Mr. Conti heard me close my door last night while you were leaving.”
I stalk toward her, closing the distance. “Amore, were you eavesdropping on us last night like a bad little girl?”
“No, I just woke up to your voices and tried to go upstairs.”
I wrap my hand around her throat, pinning her ass to the kitchen counter with my hips, letting her feel my arousal. “Don’t lie to me, my sweet rose.”
“I’m not.” She presses her hands to my chest. I lean closer and breathe her in.
“God, you smell incredible.” She moans, arching her back.
I release her before I get too carried away. “This is why you’re here today. I have business to handle, and seeing you all day makes it difficult.”
“Will you be back before I leave?” Fuck, could she need me too?
“You better not think of leaving before I get back, or I’ll go to that apartment and drag your ass back here.”
“Okay.” She nods, and I set my coffee cup in the sink. “What am I supposed to clean today?”
“The kitchen and the living room. Let me know when you’re done, and I’ll tell you what else.” I want to keep her busy so that way, she can’t sneak away. Frankly, I don’t care if she sits around ass-naked in bed and waits for me.
“Okay.”
“Good girl.”
I walk away before I do something stupid like kiss her and not leave the house like I should. It only takes me two minutes to get back to Dario’s. He’s outside the house, waiting with his dogs. He orders them to go inside, and they do.
“What’s going on?”
“We’re due for a meeting with Sanchez.” Son of a bitch. I completely forgot about it. I’ve been so caught up in my damn obsession for June that I forgot about the deal with the city councilman. It won’t do well to be late with a man we want to set up and have in our pocket. The guy is already crooked, but we need him on our side as well.
“Shit, okay. Let’s ride.” I hop into the back of the ride while Enrico takes the front passenger and Milo drives. Dario goes over the plan where he’ll do all the talking and Enrico will sit outside with Sanchez’s guards while I watch and pull the conversation in the right direction if needed.
The drive to the city’s south side takes a long time, darkening my mood. Until June, I wouldn’t even be bothered, especially because we aren’t late to the meeting. We have plenty of time, but time away from her is time wasted in my eyes.
“Calm down, Alessio. You’ll be with her soon.”
“Fuck, I’m getting weak.”
“No, you just need to get laid and claim her already. Once that’s out of your system, maybe you’ll calm down,” Dario says, but I don’t believe it. There’s something about her that makes me feel I’ll never grow used to being away from her.
“Is that why you’re so calm?”
