Before I know it, his hands are on my hips and we’re swaying together. I catch sight of Aviana to my left and she gives me the biggest grin, followed by a nod, before continuing on dancing. I look back at Mykel and smile up at him. He’s gorgeous, there is no denying how utterly perfect this man is, and how easily he could have any woman in this room. Yet here he is, staring at me in a way I wish others would stare at me, making me feel like I’m the most beautiful woman he’s seen.

It’s a feeling I’ve long craved.

My hands slide up around Mykel’s neck and then we’re swaying together in a way that is probably a little too sexual, and yet it feels really really nice. Our bodies move together, mine is crushed against his, and I can feel every hard inch of him as his hands find my hips and he moves us both to the beat.

I meet his eyes, my heart quickens a touch, and then he leans down and kisses me. It’s a bold move, I know this, but I’m pretty impressed by it. His mouth closes over mine and he kisses me with tenderness, and yet a ferocity that makes my body thrum with happiness. I deepen the kiss, our tongues dancing together. Outside of Flick, I haven’t had such a nice kiss before.

Of course, my heart isn’t quite in it the way it was with Flick, but this kiss is nice, all the same.

Suddenly, as quickly as the kiss started, Mykel is being hauled off me and tossed across the dance floor as if he was never there. I’m dazed for a moment, and then I see Flick storming over to where Mykel has landed on the ground. People move out of the way for the huge man storming through. He reaches down, grabs Mykel by the shirt, and throws a fist into his face.

My mouth drops open, and I rush forward just as he’s about to hit him again.

“Stop!” I scream, grabbing Alarick’s shirt and pulling him backward. “What is wrong with you?”

“You ever fuckin’ touch her again, I’ll end you,” Alarick growls to Mykel, who is now bleeding from the mouth. “She’s fuckin’ mine.”

Mykel glares at the panting Alarick and shoves him backward so he’s no longer hanging onto him. “Go fuck yourself, Alarick. You don’t want her, but you don’t want anyone else to have her. She’s not fuckin’ yours until you claim her, and we all know you’re too fuckin’ pussy to do that. Man up, or someone else will.”

Then he turns and storms through the crowd. I call out his name, but he doesn’t look back. With an angry glare, I turn on Flick and snap, “What the fuck is wrong with you?”

He doesn’t say a word, he just stares at me with rage in his eyes before turning and walking toward the front door of the bar. Oh, hell no, he’s not going to leave after that performance.

I follow him out the door, angry and so utterly disappointed.

When we’re on the street, he turns and walks toward his truck which is parked on the curb. He unlocks it and climbs inside. I pick up the pace, swinging the passenger door open before he can drive off. I slide inside and he turns, shocked, angry, and snarls, “What the fuck are you doin’?”

“You didn’t think you could put on a show like that and just leave, did you? Not until you tell me what the hell that was about.”

“Get out of my fuckin’ car, Briella.”

“No,” I say, leaning back in the chair and crossing my arms. “No, I won’t.”

“Fuckin’ fine, do whatever the fuck you want.”

He puts the truck in drive and starts heading in the direction of his place. I don’t stop him, and when we arrive there, he parks the truck and gets out without another word. I do the same, slamming the truck door and following him into the house. When we’re inside, he flicks the lights on and then turns to face me again. “You need to find somewhere else to be; I can’t deal with you bein’ here right now.”

“Why not?” I ask him.

Ignoring me, he walks down the hall toward his bedroom.

“Why not, Flick?” I push, following him.

He says nothing.

“You cause a scene like that, and yet you don’t even have the balls to tell me why the fuck you just did what you did?” I yell at him.

He stops, fists clenched, and then he spins around, his face wild with anger. “Because he does not get to fuckin’ kiss you. He does not get to fuck you. He does not get to look at you the way he was. He does not get those fuckin’ things.”

“Why?” I scream. “Why?”
