“I can’t believe you seduced me.”
I giggled. “I can’t believe it took so long for me to successfully seduce you. Usually I just have to look at you the right way and you’re game.”
He nipped my shoulder. “I was worried about the little one.”
I covered my hands with his. “Sex is recommended towards the end of pregnancy. I told you. A lot of the time it can be the very thing to induce labour.”
Kane looked up at me through the mirror and said, “What are we waiting for then? Bedroom. Now.”
I laughed as he grabbed my hand and pulled me out of the bathroom. With a determined look on his face, and one of pure delight on mine, we headed to our sanctum.
The prospect of going into labour early never looked, or felt, so good.
“Where are James, Harley and Dante?” I asked Gavin as I held my phone to my ear.
I was so relieved that he answered his phone and that he was at home instead of out with his stupid friend Jason Bane getting up to God only knows what. I was sat on my bed talking to my Gavin because all of Kane’s brothers were in our sitting room and I got the sudden urge to hear from one of my lads. They were always over visiting, but not as much as the Slater brothers and it just made me miss them.
I was bored too.
I would usually spend the evening time correcting my students’ homework, but since I was on maternity leave I had nothing to do in regards to work, and I missed it.
I missed my students.
I was entitled to twenty-six weeks of paid maternity leave with an additional sixteen weeks of unpaid maternity leave if I needed more time at home.
Typically, women would take two weeks off before the impending birth of their child, but as it was so flexible in my job, I tapped into eight of the sixteen unpaid weeks I had and used them after I was attacked, which the school was more than happy to accommodate.
I sighed as I pushed away thoughts of how much I missed working, and focused on the phone call to my brother.
“James and Harley are on a blind double date, and Dante is here with me playing Fifa.”
That fucking game. Kane and his brothers were playing the same game constantly.
“Tell Dante hey.”
“Tell him yourself, puttin’ you on speaker now.”
I smiled. “Dante, why are you playin’ video games with Gavin on a Friday night instead of being out?”
Dante’s snort was loud. “Hello to you too, dear sister.”
I grinned.
“To answer your question, it’s only half ten, I don’t go anywhere until twelve. No one goes to clubs when they just open.”
I rolled my eyes. “I can’t remember the last time I went clubbin’ so spare me the details.”
My brothers laughed.
“Are you still pregnant?” Gavin asked me.
I smiled. “No, I had the kid and decided not to tell you both.”
Dante snickered. “You walked right into that one.”
“Whatever. When do you think you will have the baby? You’ve been pregnant forever.”
Tell me about it.
“I’ve two weeks until me due date, it might be a while yet.”
They both sighed and it made me smile.
“I miss you both.”
Dante snorted. “You saw me two days ago.”
“Two days is a long time,” I countered.
“I’ll swing by tomorrow, that cool?”
I nodded even though he couldn’t see me.
I opened my mouth to speak when I heard Gavin growl, “Fuckin’ Nico.”
“What?” I questioned as cheers erupted from my sitting room.
“The prick just scored against me.”
I blinked. “Are you playing Kane and his brothers?”
“Yeah, we’re takin’ turns,” Dante replied.
Boys and their bloody toys.
“Okay, I’ll leave you both be.” I frowned. “See you tomorrow.”
“Bye,” Gavin’s voice sounded before the phone clicked off.
Goodbye to you, too, little brother.
I shook my head, tossed my phone onto my nightstand and stood up. I was bored, and even though I didn’t want to watch the lads play their football game, it beat lying in bed doing nothing.
The girls, bar Branna who was working, went out for dinner and because it was a restaurant that served sushi, I couldn’t go. Sushi was off limits to me. It made me sick before I was pregnant. Even the smell of it could set me off, but it was a definite no-go now that I was having a baby.
I exited my room and paused at the front door as a key entered the lock and the handle jiggled. I stepped back with a racing heart until I saw who the person was and calmed down.
“Keela,” I breathed. “You scared me.”
She looked just as surprised to see me standing right behind the door, but quickly exhaled and moved closer to me.
“How was dinner—”
“I need your help.”
I widened my eyes. “With what?”
“The girls,” Keela murmured.
I gasped. “What about the girls?”
“Shhh!”
I winced and looked to the sitting room door as it opened and Nico and Kane practically fell out of it. Kane placed his hand on his chest when he saw me.
“Fuck. I thought something was wrong.”
I looked to Keela who was glaring at me.
“My bad.”
Nico straightened. “Keela, where are Bronagh and Alannah?”
She scratched her neck. “In the elevator.”
I poked her arm.
“What’s wrong?”
She groaned. “It’s not me fault, I didn’t know what they were drinkin’—”
“Keela?” Alec’s voice said sternly from behind his brothers. “What happened?”
I blinked at Alec, having never heard him sound so serious before.
“Brongah and Alannah, they’re kind of... drunk.”
Nico stumbled. “Bronagh is pregnant!”
“Yeah,” Keela said and scratched her neck again. “We were at dinner and her and Alannah drank these weird drinks. The menu said they were alcohol free … but they weren’t. The waiter got the order mixed up. She didn’t drink loads, just a few glasses.”
Nico raised an eyebrow. “Where the hell is she? I can deal with her—”
“Promise you won’t get mad?”
“Keela,” Nico said, his tone dangerously low. “Where is Bronagh?”
Keela caved under his gaze. “I told you she is in the elevator … but she is sittin’ in it in just her bra and knickers, ridin’ it up and down with Alannah… who is also drunk, and semi-naked.”
