A huge smile breaks out across his handsome face as relief flashes through his green eyes. “We’re in this together, no matter what.”

“Forever.”

“I’m a freaking whale and my hair is turning frizzy. Riley is in Houston getting ready for tonight, and the sink in the powder room stopped up and overflowed this morning.” I wail my grief into the phone, looking for a little sympathy from my best friend. “I had to bend my huge self over and mop up the floor and almost peed my pants.”

Raven sighs on the other end. “First of all, you barely have a baby bump. If someone didn’t know you, they’d never even know you’re pregnant.” I don’t care. I still feel like a hot air balloon. “Second, it’s freaking early summer in southern Texas, and everyone has frizzy hair.” She’s really taking the wind out of my sails. “And lastly, the sink leaking isn’t the end of the world. I’ll call the Silver Spoon Plumbers and get them to send someone out to fix it right away. Freaking pregnancy hormones suck.” She’s not wrong. Since we found out I’m expecting, I’ve been on a continuous rollercoaster, alternating between extreme happiness and tears.

“I know. It’s been one of those days.” I blow a strand of frizzy hair out of my face and sit at the breakfast bar. “Thank you for coming to my rescue.”

“Of course.” Raven laughs. “I’ve been there twice myself.” She’s my freaking hero. I’m not sure I’ll survive one pregnancy, much less two in two years.

“I have a feeling this is going to be my one and only time.”

“I’ll believe that when I see it.” Raven laughs, and I hear a loud shriek in the background. “I have to let you go. I think Chelsea is trying to put makeup on the dog again.”

“Call back when you can.” I laugh and hang up. I glance at the clock and see it’s almost time for my afternoon tutoring session.

When the tour ended, Riley retired from Sp*nked and started writing music part-time. The band wasn’t happy to lose him, but they quickly found a new lead singer and started working on a new album. Riley and Sean wrote most of the music for the new album, and it went straight to the top of the charts with the first single, a newly reworked version of “Addicted 2 You” called “Addicted 2 Candy.” Sean and the guys thought it was an appropriate addition to their album, and I couldn’t agree more.

Tonight, the band is kicking off their new tour in Houston, and Riley is going to surprise the audience by performing the new version of the song with Sp*nked.

Déjà vu hits me right between the eyes when a loud boom echoes through the arena as the lights dim. Rapid drumbeats boom a few seconds before my husband’s voice echoes around the large arena. “Houston, guess who’s back!”

The crowd goes wild around us as Raven leans over to yell in my ear, “You lucky biatch.”

Yes, I am. So freaking lucky. I get to take Riley home at the end of the concert and show him how addicted I am to him. Life is good.
