She’s a diamond down on the dance floor, glimmering up to me, so priceless and unattainable. I’m just the poor boy watching on with only dreams of being able to someday be able to handle such jewels. She’s come a long way from the woman who first entered Wonderland. This time, as she strides across the dance floor that hosts men and women more powerful than God, she has her own power.
But she belongs to Nick motherfucking Hudson. And I want every single person in this room to know it.
And though I itch to storm down there, yank her away from every hungry eye in the room, I remain in the spot I like most—up on the iron-railed balcony so I can see all the action below. Stay high, observe and watch.
Yes, I’m watching. I’ll always be watching her.
Up high in the clouds is my kingdom where I rule… watching over my queen.
Power sizzles through the air, and I fucking get off on it. There are royalty, the CEOs, music gods, and criminal masterminds down below. But the most powerful person, the one that has a hold on me is her.
Finally… finally, she looks up, scanning the balcony for me. She knows where to find me, but I also know that with the laser lights, the shadows, and the distance that she’ll have a hard time spotting me. But that doesn’t mean she doesn’t try. Her eyes squint and she uses her hand to shield the brightness from the lights. Not being successful, she then scans the room, zeroing in on Harrison. He’s not a hard man to spot, and he’s not far from Lyriope and Sasha. He’s watching. He’s guarding. And my guess is that Lyriope knows it. She stops dancing, says something into Sasha’s ear that causes her to smile and nod, and then she makes her way to where Harrison is standing. I watch her talk into his ear and point to the balcony. Harrison looks up in my direction, pauses, and then eventually nods as he leads Lyriope to the stairs that will bring her to me. Leaving me grinning like the Cheshire Cat.
Chapter Eleven
Nick
Wonderland.
It was my everything…
Until she entered my life.
Now it’s her. Only her.
She is my everything.
And I believe she knows it.
I’ve given her the upper hand no matter how much I try to resist.
“What are you doing here?” I ask her as she finally reaches me, even though I willed her here.
I’m sitting on a leather couch, my cane placed over my lap as if I can use it as a weapon against her. But nothing can truly protect me from this woman. Every single time I see her, I get weaker and weaker. It won’t be long until I wave my white flag and beg for mercy. Especially with the way she looks tonight. I could just lick her, bite her, devour every last piece of her flesh.
She bends down and kisses me briefly on the cheek as if we are simply acquaintances and nothing more. She’s being polite and I hate fucking manners. “Sasha convinced me to come. She said there was an open invite for Morellis and—”
“You feel like you’re a Morelli now?” I ask, taunting her with a quirk of an eyebrow and a slight smirk. I’m not being fair, and I know it. But I’m getting sick of playing by the rules.
Ignoring my question, she sits down next to me and looks up at Harrison with a smile. She gives a devilish grin and brushes her dark hair off her shoulder to show off even more flesh. My eyes narrow on Lyriope, knowing damn well she picked this dress to wear out just to mess with me. I can’t allow my mind to go to the dark places of picturing other men watching her in the streets of New York or I’ll go mad.
I nod at Harrison to signal he’s not needed.
Harrison turns to leave, but first tells me, “You said you’d be attending the private birthday party in room two. Do you want me to inform the host that you’re occupied?”
Lyriope’s eyes widen, and quirks an eyebrow. I see the jealousy flooding from every pore on her face. “Private party?”
Harrison’s eyes dart to mine and he frowns. He knows he could have just fucked up. I smile so he knows I’m not upset. “They can start without me.” I want to keep Lyriope on her toes, but I also don’t want Lyriope to believe I was going to have sex with anyone.
No one can compare to her. But fuck if I’ll admit to that.
My eyes lock with his, and he’s a wise enough man to know to get off the topic and leave. “I’ll let the host know,” Harrison says as he takes the opportunity to spin on his heels and leave.
