Familiar words that were from a voice that wasn’t anywhere near as sweet as Lucky’s repeated themselves for the millionth time in my pounding head.

You’re mine, Zach. Even when you say you’re not, we both know the truth.

It wasn’t until Lucky whispered my name that I snapped out of the past those words had drawn me into.

No.

No fucking way would I let Lucky make the same mistakes as me.

“No,” I finally responded before moving back again. My body had a strange habit of drifting closer to Lucky without me even realizing it.

“You should tell him. He’s your brother, Zach. He loves you. You don’t need to keep secrets from him—”

“Kind of like you’re keeping secrets?” I asked as I nudged the edge of his medical bag.

Lucky looked as if I’d physically attacked him again. “That’s different.”

“How?” I asked. “How is it different?”

I knew his move to cross his arms was meant to show defiance, but I saw something else in his eyes.

Guilt.

A whole shit ton of guilt.

“It’s not the same thing because I just took a couple of CPR courses. I took them all the time back home. I don’t need to tell my dads about something they already know.”

Irritation went through me as I reached down to grab the bag. I began tossing medical equipment onto the bed.

“How many CPR courses hand out stethoscopes to their graduates?” I asked. I looked over the items on the bed. “This looks like a go bag to me. In fact, Jake has one that has a lot of the same things—”

“Fine,” Lucky snapped. “I took some advanced courses.”

I tossed the empty bag on the bed. “Try again,” I responded. I wasn’t surprised when Lucky tried to move past me so he could leave the room.

“Move,” he growled when I stepped into his path.

“You don’t need to keep secrets—” I began to say, mimicking Lucky’s earlier words, but he cut me off.

“Fuck you, Zach!”

Lucky shoved me hard, once again reminding me that he was much stronger than he looked. My instincts took over as I grabbed him by the upper arms and walked him backwards until his back hit the wall. I loved how pissed he got whenever I manhandled him, though I had no clue why I liked it so much.

Because it proves he can handle you…

I told my inner voice to put a cork in it and simply waited for Lucky to settle down. The muscles of his biceps filled my hands. His skin felt hot against mine and I wondered if it was always like that or if it was just because he was pissed.

If that were the case, what would it feel like when he was turned on? I cursed the train of my thoughts, especially when I realized I’d once again moved closer to Lucky. There were only inches separating us and at some point, Lucky had stopped fighting me. His breaths were coming in pants and his gorgeous lips were parted enough to let the air pass. I imagined what it would be like to slip my tongue into his hot mouth… then my cock. Would he suck me eagerly or shyly?

I must have made some kind of sound because Lucky’s eyes darted from my eyes to my mouth and back again.

“Zach,” he breathed.

No… begged.

He was begging.

Just like my body was begging me to let go of the tightly held leash I had on it.

Before I knew what I was doing, my thumb was tracing the line of his mouth. Lucky inhaled sharply at the contact. His body squirmed against mine, and I could see that he’d fisted the hand I’d released.

Probably to stop himself from touching me.

I almost told him not to, but some shred of sanity stopped me. But that logic was failing me when it came to my exploration of Lucky’s beautiful mouth with my too-rough finger. “Did he kiss you?”

When Lucky didn’t answer my question, I growled it again. “Did he?”

“Wh-who?” he managed to get out.

“The asshole in the designer polo shirt.”

“Davis?” Lucky asked, clearly confused.

All I managed was a nod. I knew my question was unreasonable because what guy would resist being able to kiss Lucky’s perfect mouth, but that didn’t keep me from pressing the issue.

My gut clenched when Lucky shook his head. “He wouldn’t.”

I wanted to punch the fucker all over again, but Lucky’s next words stopped me cold.

“Haven’t been kissed since one time when I was fifteen. Some guys since then have wanted to, but I wanted…”

Lucky’s eyes shimmered with emotion as his voice broke.

“Wanted what?” I asked as my heart jumped in my chest.

“I wanted the next guy to be yo—”

That was all he got out before his phone began beeping loudly. It reminded me of the days when people carried beepers.

Lucky closed his eyes and that was enough to break the spell. I quickly released him and stepped back. My body felt thwarted.
