“You can, but I’m the one doing all the answering.”

She shrugged. “Go ahead, ask me anything.”

“Why are you alone?”

“Wow, you really like to get right in there, don’t you?” she asked, laughing. He saw the blush staining her cheeks.

“You don’t have to tell me if you don’t want to.”

“It sounds bad, but it’s not.” She pressed her lips together. “Okay, so my sister and I don’t get along.”

“Are you the oldest? Youngest?”

“I’m the youngest. My sister loved being an only child, and that was the way she wanted it to stay. Just her and our parents. Then I came along, and obviously, being a newborn baby, I demanded a lot of attention. Attention she didn’t want to give up. So, she always will hate my guts. It’s not logical, but that is all I can put it down to. You know the other details of her stealing my boyfriend, and pretty much ruining any other relationship I’ve ever had. One day, she sent my boyfriend running away because he couldn’t handle it. He hated her that much.”

Brick sat back, watching Cathy.

“What do you think she is going to do with me?”

She shrugged but he saw a slight tear in her eye. Cathy glanced away and then blew out a breath.

“Honestly, she’s a beautiful woman. Let me show you a picture of her.” Cathy reached into her bag, pulling out her cell phone, clicking away, and then holding the phone out to him. “She’s the blonde.”

Brick took the phone, and sure enough, the woman was beautiful, no doubt about it, but Brick didn’t like her. He flicked across some of the images, and there was one of the two sisters. Where Cathy had deep brown hair, the other woman was fair, light, blonde. Even in the photograph, he saw how horrible she was. The snide curl to her lips, the nastiness in her gaze.

He hoped he didn’t meet her, because for him, it was an instant dislike.

Chapter Five

Lunch was amazing and the ride back to her home even more so. Cathy knew she could get used to his bike.

He pulled up onto her driveway. She climbed off, but this time she didn’t need any assistance in keeping herself upright. She must be getting used to the bike.

“Your street is very into Christmas,” he said.

Cathy looked down her street. Both sides were covered with houses tastefully lit up with decorations.

“Yeah, it’s why I love this place. The moment this house came up for sale, I knew I wanted it. I didn’t think I was going to get it, but some miracle put it right in my lap.” She tilted her head to the side. “Do you not love Christmas?”

She watched as he pursed his lips and then glanced down the street. “Yeah, I do. Even when it is fucking mental, right? And shit hits the fan. I love it. Drink, food, presents. Yeah, I love it.” He nodded his head.

“I don’t know if you’re trying to convince me or yourself.”

He chuckled. “I don’t know who I’m trying to convince, but either way, I’m here for it all.”

“Would you like to come in for some eggnog, maybe a cookie?” she asked.

“I thought you were never going to ask.”

Cathy wanted to, but she didn’t know how. Offering food and a beverage seemed like a safe choice. At least she thought it was safe, or potentially safer. Not that she wanted to be safe.

Stepping up to her front door, she slid the key into the lock and twisted. She walked over the threshold, and before she had a chance to turn on the light, Brick had already closed the door and pressed her up against it.

“Now, this is so much better,” he said.

Before she had time to ask him what was better, his lips were on hers, and then she wasn’t interested in what was better. Dropping her keys and bag, she wrapped her arms around his neck.

His hands slid down her body, going toward her ass, and she gasped as he suddenly lifted her into his arms. He didn’t grunt or complain, and she wrapped her legs around his waist, staring into his eyes.

“Bedroom?”

“Upstairs. I can walk.”

“Shut up,” he said.

He was already on the stairs, walking them up. Cathy couldn’t resist kissing his neck, sliding her tongue right across the pulse and biting down.

Brick growled, and she pointed in the general direction of the bedroom.

She let out a little gasp as he dropped her on the bed, but he didn’t give her the chance to recover, as he already started to attack her jeans. He had them down to her knees, then all the way off within seconds. Her panties did not survive. Brick didn’t seem to have the patience for removing them, so they were torn off, but she loved his lack of patience.
