Shit.

Shit.

I guess I’m going on a date with a man who isn’t my husband.

Well fuck.

Chapter 6

Mrs. to you

Jake

As she steps off the stage, I follow her with my gaze. Her husband walks straight up to her and puts an arm around her waist as she leans in and whispers something in his ear.

“You sure you should have done that, boss?” Captain asks from his seat next to me.

I pick up my glass and smile over the top of it. “Probably not, but it was fun.”

“You do love to bid and win.”

I do.

It’s how I run many of my businesses—the ones that make the most money, that is.

“Heads up… Here they come,” Captain says.

I stand as she and Kyler approach, taking her in as she does the same to me. Her gaze scans over me, looking up and down before stopping at my eyes.

“This was a surprise. I didn’t think you could make it tonight,” Kyler says.

“I did have an invite, and it’s for a good cause, right?” He nods and turns to his wife, who hasn’t taken those gorgeous green eyes off me.

“You know my husband?” she asks me. I smirk, not being able to help myself. The real question should have been how her husband knows me.

“I do,” I answer her.

“How?” she asks as she turns her head toward her husband.

“Oriana,” Kyler says, trying to hide his annoyance at her curiosity. “Jake is a major donor to a lot of charities. He makes incredibly large donations to worthwhile charities.”

“Does he?” she asks, looking back at me with a lifted brow. “And can I ask what it is you do for a living…” She pauses. “Jake, was it?”

“Yes, and you’re Oriana.” I offer her my hand, and she hesitates at first. I fight the smirk that wants to pull at my lips as she glances at her husband and then at my hand. When she finally holds her hand out, I take it. It’s small and delicate in mine. I notice her once-red nails are now silver to match her dress. Turning her hand over, I lean in and kiss her inner wrist softly before I meet her eyes again.

Oriana pulls her hand from mine and slides it behind her back. I see a blush take hold of her cheeks, while I am watching her with great interest.

“Jake owns a lot of things. I’d say his clubs are his biggest money-makers. Isn’t that right, Jake?” Kyler continues.

“Clubs? What type of clubs?” Oriana pushes.

“Dance clubs, Oriana. What has gotten into you?”

She scrunches her nose up before she looks back at me.

“Among other things,” I offer her. Those green eyes that remind me of a rainforest pierce me.

“Seems you get the pleasure of taking my wife out. I know you will be a gentleman and keep your hands to yourself, of course,” Kyler says. But he doesn’t mean it. He says it because he thinks he has to. I stand by as Oriana grabs his arm and leans on him.

“A gentleman.” I laugh and look at Oriana. “Is that what you would prefer me to be for the night?”

Captain coughs behind me, and I don’t move an inch as her cheeks turn from pink to red. Kyler doesn’t say anything. Either he trusts his wife, or he doesn’t care. I think it’s probably the latter.

“Yes, of course,” she says meekly.

“Good. I’ll collect you on Sunday.” I turn to Captain, who is pretending not to pay any attention, and nod toward the door.

“Sunday?” She gasps.

Facing her again, I refrain from smirking. I like seeing her sweat. The way her cheeks match the color of her hair makes me wonder if it matches other things…

“Do you have an issue with that?” I ask.

“No, she’s free.” Kyler nods and turns to leave. “Have a good night, Jake.”

As soon as Kyler is gone, she steps closer to me.

“Is your name really Jake?”

“Does the red of the drapes match the carpet?” I ask her. She swallows hard at my vulgar question, and Captain simply chuckles behind me.

“How dare you ask a married woman that.”

“Where is your ring?” I ask, noticing she’s not wearing one.

Those green eyes flick down, and she instantly shakes her head. “I forgot. I had a busy week.”

“I’m sure you did.”

“What is that meant to mean?” She scoffs. “Are you saying I’m lying?”

I step closer to her and lean into her ear. “I’ll see you Sunday, Oriana.”

“That’s Mrs. Lavender to you.” She spins on her heel, and as she does, her red hair flicks my face. I watch as she stalks off, her ass moving hypnotizingly in that tight as fuck silver dress.

“You are playing with fire,” Captain says.

“Fire is meant to burn,” I reply with a sly grin.

Chapter 7

Fool me once…

Oriana

The audacity of that man, coming here and bidding on me, then proceeding to kiss my wrist in front of my husband.
