My foot slips right between the mattress and the couch.

The jolt shocks me as I fall on my butt, and I immediately try to pull my foot back up, but it’s caught on something, some mechanism that allows the bed part of the couch to pull out, and whatever it is digs right into my foot every time I try.

“Ow,” I wince with a sigh. “Shit balls.”

I try again, twisting my foot, but the same thing happens. Something metal bites into my foot, preventing me from lifting it. It’s as if a pair of pliers has ahold of me and is keeping me from going anywhere.

Is this seriously happening?

I remember what Blake said to me back in the kitchen. “Let me know if you need anything.”

Pretty sure that no matter how embarrassing this is, this qualifies. Although I really wish I had his cell phone number right now.

I take a deep breath, then call out, “Blake!” I wait a long moment, then call out again. “Blake!?”

After a few seconds, I hear footsteps coming down the stairs. Then his face appears in the door.

“Yo?”

“I…need your help,” I say slowly.

“Making the bed?” He smiles.

I sigh. “No…I’m kinda stuck.”

“You’re stuck?” I see the confusion on his face, but behind that, I can already see the smile starting to form.

I sigh and hang my head in my hands. This is so embarrassing.

“My foot. It slipped in between the couch and the mattress, and I can’t – I can’t get it out.”

Blake chuckles. “You realize how ridiculous this seems, right?” he asks. “The step-sister is caught in something and asking for help trope?”

“Yes, Blake, I do realize,” I reply, doing my best not to laugh as I struggle with my situation.

“Those are some short shorts you’re wearing, too,” he says, pointing down.

“Yes, they are my bedtime shorts.” I can feel myself starting to blush now. “Normally I just sleep in my underwear, but that’s when I actually have a bedroom.”

“You know what normally happens next in this scenario, right?” Blake asks, and I feel my face light up like a lightbulb. I must be as red as a cherry tomato.

Did he seriously just ask me that?

“Yes, I know what happens next, Blake,” I reply. “The step-sister’s stuck in the dryer or whatever, and then the step-brother comes to help her out and…but he doesn’t actually help her out. He just…has his way with her.”

My heart is beating so fast right now. I can’t get over how he’s looking at me either. Why is he even asking me these questions? Is he just screwing with me or what?

“So you watch porn.” Blake grins.

“Um…sometimes…”

He nods, a ponderous expression on his face, like he’s a scholar doing interviews for his research paper. “A lot of girls won’t admit that.”

“I mean, girls are humans too,” I reply. “Girls have urges.”

“Is that right?” Blake replies as he sits down on the bed beside me. His eyes trace my leg down to the gap where it’s stuck, then slowly, he reaches out and runs two fingers down my thigh to my knee, then down to my ankle.

A shiver runs through me, like an electric pulse that I have to fight to keep from showing. It’s a primal rush that hits me like a wave of emotions I’ve never experienced before.

Oh my God, he’s doing…something.

This is bad. This is really bad. Blake is off-limits.

I can’t go to my mom and ask her what she thinks of him as someone I’d like to date. I already know what she’d say. I already know what my biological dad would say too. Actually, he wouldn’t say anything. He’d just kill both of us.

But I also know what I’m feeling at this precise moment, and there’s really no fighting that.

“So there’s really two options I have here, Luna,” Blake says, glancing up at me as his thumb runs gentle circles across my knee.

“Oh? W-what are those?”

“I can help free your foot from the couch.” He smiles. “Or I could go ahead and play out the rest of that scenario the way it’s supposed to play out.”

My heart skips a beat.

Christ, he really just said it out loud.

“Y – you would hate that,” I reply, my voice shaking like a leaf in the wind.

“Oh, I don’t know about that,” he replies, that charming smile still on his lips.

If I wasn’t blushing before, I sure am now. Stuck in a couch with short-shorts on and now I have to admit something to my older step-brother, something really embarrassing, something really don’t want to admit to anybody at all.

“I’ve never…done that before.” It feels like I’m confessing a crime to the police.

But there. It’s out there. I said it.

But to my surprise, Blake doesn’t burst out laughing or look at me like I’m some kind of weirdo. In fact, the expression on his face changes in a kind of way that makes me feel even more desired than I was feeling a moment ago.
