I don’t want to trust what I see when I look into his eyes. His eyes are one of my weaknesses. I want to feel him and his love, not see it. Everyone is different, for me this is what I need.

I need to feel because I no longer trust what I see. Nothing seems to be right when I do. If he can give me this, I think I can get us both to where we need to be.

He cups the back of my neck, bringing my lips back to his. He moves his other palm down from the center of my chest, covering my stomach. His fingers splay my belly and I swear it feels like he’s pushing healing powers into my womb.

Tears start to fall behind the blindfold. He breaks the kiss this time. His tongue flicking against my skin to trap the tears that have fallen.

“I love you,” he whispers.

I’ve been hearing those words for months, but tonight I let them fully sink in. Brodi would have brought me in here, tied me to the St. Andrew’s Cross I noticed and put my body through the wringer until my mind numbed to it all. He would have freed me of the internal war, but it would have been all him.

Gregor, my husband—the love he has for me doesn’t allow him to leave me behind. With him, I’m a part of the team, which is what I needed all along. It’s what we needed.

I open my mouth to say the words. “Gregor” comes out instead.

I come down and he thrusts up just when I need it. I explode around him. He lifts, repositioning us on the bed.

I push my head back into the pillow as he drives into me with deliberate strokes. I feel him, just the way I need to and wrap my legs around him to cradle him tightly.

“Yes, baby,” he groans. “Take all my love. Take everything I have to give.”

“Gregor.” My cry echoes through the room over the music.

“I’d do anything for you. You’re my family, Chlo. You’re the beginning of everything I am. Know that I’ll protect my family with my life. I’ll be here for whatever you need, whenever you need it,” he says huskily.

“Yes, yes,” I whimper.

I reach for the blindfold and pull it off. Reaching for my hands, he locks the fingers of our joined hands together. Turning my head, I then stare at our locked palms.

It’s like something clicks into place. Before I can dive into the feeling too deeply, he moves his fingers under my chin and turns my face to his. His gaze scorches into me.

“This is forever. I’ll love you always. I’m never letting you go,” he says just before we both climax together.

He drops his forehead to mine as he hisses through his teeth. We absorb each other and the moment. His last words play in my head. I don’t think I ever believed he was going to let me go. Truth is, I never wanted him to.

“I know,” I breathe when my heart slows.

He rolls onto his back but keeps a hold of my hand that’s cuffed to his. Reaching for my body, he drags it into his. I snuggle closer, my thoughts spinning.

Time ticks by as we lie together in a sated bliss. I start to form the words to say them out loud, but my stomach speaks up instead. Gregor chuckles and lifts his head.

“You didn’t eat much at dinner. I’ll go out and replace your ice cream,” he says.

“You don’t have to do that.” I yawn and bury deeper into his warmth.

“Already done,” he says as he reaches into the drawer and retrieves a key.

“It’s late. Ethan is probably knocked out.”

“I’m a grown man. I know how to take myself to the store for my woman. I think I even know a place where I can get you some strawberries.” He winks. “Besides, I think you’re going to need your energy for the second half of the night.”

“Is that right?”

He leans in to lay a bone-melting kiss on me. I sink into the bed as I cling to his shoulders. A whimper leaves me when he backs away.

“I’ll be right back,” he promises, kissing the tip of my nose.

I can’t help watching after him with a goofy grin on my face. Too soon he’s wrapped in one of the silk robes hanging by the door and then he’s gone. I’m left with my thoughts and feelings once again.

Chapter 49

Father to Son

Gregor

“I didn’t think you would come,” my father says as I step into his office.

“It’s late and I wasn’t going to,” I grumble. “Why am I here?”

I wasn’t going to respond to his text, but I never got to address the things I wanted to talk to him about earlier. After finding out he’s dying, I needed to pull my thoughts together.
