Oh, my goodness, here she goes. I brace myself for this. My girl is a nut and anything, and I mean anything, will come out of that mouth.

“We’ve always heard rumors about you and what you look like. You know the rumor mill can be all over the place. I thought you were some old guy with a hot wife, forty years your junior. One person said you were young and gorgeous. I think they were all dead wrong.”

Clayton leans back on his heels and gives Chloe a real stern look as he goes to sip from his glass. That’s when she blurted out. “You’re angelic.”

Clayton pulls his glass from his lips as he almost spits his drink across the room. We all roar with laughter, even the bouncers laugh from the corners of the room. Clayton can’t stop laughing, he places his drink down.

“Well, Chloe, I have never been told I’m angelic,” he says, with a wicked grin. “I guess you can thank my parents for that. My mother always said my brothers and I get it from her.”

Chloe’s eyes light up as her back shoots straight as a soldier standing at attention. I think I actually see saliva drop onto her breast. I want to cover my face in embarrassment for my crazy friend.

“Wait a minute, you have brothers? I need another drink. If you don’t mind me asking, how many do you have?”

“I have two, I’m the second oldest.”

Believe it or not, Chloe has broken the ice. The tension leaves the room as we converse. I feel less nervous. He seems like a great person, but I still have questions.

What does this man want with me? Is this a setup coming from Steinway & Schwartz? Hopefully, the questions I have will be answered.

I don’t know, but I feel like I’m about to walk into something new and unexpected. Whenever I get focused on myself and my life, things get confusing and out of whack. Chloe says it’s because I’m always waiting for the other shoe to drop.

While we’re talking, the bouncer who led us in here goes to whisper something into Clayton’s ear. Clayton’s face lights up like a kid on Christmas as he walks over to his desk. He logs into his computer as he calls out to us.

“Sidney and Chloe, I do apologize. I have to handle something quickly. Please make yourselves comfortable, I’ll be back in five.”

“Okay,” Chloe and I say in perfect sync.

He exits the room with extra pep in his step. That man is wearing that suit, I can’t lie. I check his butt out when he walks out. It’s been seven years since I’ve had any type of relationship. I think my hormones are raging.

“Sid, I told you there was nothing to worry about. Clayton is a nice guy.” Chloe breaks into my thoughts.

“Yes, he seems nice. Didn’t you say this was an exclusive club?” I change the subject.

“It is, did you not see the Mission Impossible entrance and the walk through into this part of the club?” She purses her lips and lifts a brow at me.

“I know, but it seemed considerably crowded for a place only a few people know about. I thought it would be a small setting, sort of like a lounge,” I muse.

“This place is huge. While we were walking, I noted that it looked as if there’s a separate section of the club,” she says thoughtfully.

“I noticed that too. I wonder what’s on that side. Did you see the bouncers in front of those doors? They were huge.” My eyes round as I look pointedly at Chloe.

“I caught a glimpse of the people going back there, showing some type of bracelets. Do you think that’s some type of illuminati stuff?” Excitement fills my nutty friend’s eyes.

I burst out laughing. “You need to stop watching all of them crazy YouTube videos. You said it yourself, this place is exclusive.” I pause, lift a brow and shake my head. “What I want to know is, how did you notice all of that? Damn, you’re nosy.”

We both laugh, but truth be told, I’m even more curious about Club Dream and Clayton Hennessy. I like having Chloe with me because she sees things I don’t see when we go out. I know later on, she’ll remember something she saw and bring it up in a conversation.

Five minutes later, Clayton comes back with an even bigger smile on his face. There are two files in his hand that he throws on his desk. He pours himself a drink and asks if we want more champagne before turning back to us.

We take another drink, which he has one of his guys hand to us. I know I said no drinking but I’m still processing this night. This place, this man, can you really blame me—every bit helps at this point.
