I’d still freelance for Madigan Mountain and planned to spend most my winter days with Weston, but now I’d be able to take other extreme clients, and with the publicity from the World Geographic competition, I’d already booked my first half-dozen.
I leaned into the doorway and noted Sutton had taken her seat next to Melody, Weston’s stepmother. The relationship between Weston and his dad was still pretty rocky, but at least we could all be together in the same room without it coming to blows, especially on a day like today. I knew it would take time, but time was something we had now.
Smoothing the lines of my dress, I retreated, then turned to head back to the bride’s room, where Ava was putting the finishing touches on the vows she’d edited at least sixteen times already. Of course they were perfect.
I ran smack into a hard chest in the darkened hallway, and the hands that steadied my hips made me smile. I’d know that scent, that body anywhere. “You’re supposed to be dragging Reed to the altar.”
“Trust me, Reed is chomping at the bit.” Weston dipped his head and kissed my neck. “We’re just waiting for the clock to chime four. What are you doing out here?”
I shivered at the feel of his lips on my skin. “Checking to make sure Sutton is where she’s supposed to be.” My brow puckered. “Pretty sure I saw someone who looks a lot like your brother wandering the halls, too.”
“He’s upstairs changing.” I felt him smile as his lips grazed my jaw. “It’s great to have him here.”
“I bet it is.” I swayed in his arms when his mouth moved toward my ear. “You are going to wrinkle me, Weston Madigan.”
“Sounds like a good time.” He ghosted his lips across mine.
“Lipstick,” I warned him. It had taken a professional an hour to paint me up this way, and if he smeared me before the pictures, Ava was going to lose it.
“Who said I was kissing your mouth?” His lips hovered, and I leaned into him, my hands gripping his shoulders.
My pulse raced as he kissed the corner of my lips, my jaw, and the side of my neck. “We cannot make out in the hallway like a couple of teenagers,” I protested, but my hands pulled him closer. He was never close enough.
“You feel incredible in this dress.” His hands swept over my ass. “I can’t wait to take it off you later. Or maybe I’ll just lift the hem for dessert. I’ve never been too keen on cake.”
I whimpered and heat flushed my skin. It was always like this with him. The electric connection never fizzled, it only grew stronger. The man could turn me on with nothing but a look. Hell, sometimes I didn’t even need that.
He tilted his head to kiss my fingertips, then took my hand in his, lifting it to his mouth. He kissed the inside of my wrist, then my palm, then the diamond I’d spun around to face inward for today. “Still glad you said yes?”
“Every day.” I grinned.
“It’s only been two days.” He chuckled.
He’d proposed after flying us to the top of the ridge behind the resort, his words stealing my breath just as effectively as the altitude. The sight of him on one knee was something I’d never forget.
It was also something we were keeping to ourselves for the next few weeks so Reed and Ava could have the spotlight.
“I’m going to be glad next week, and the week after, and the year after that,” I promised, happiness filling every cell in my body.
“God, I love you,” he whispered, and the admission hit me just like it did the first time, humbling me to my toes while simultaneously making me want to climb him at the next opportunity. I’d never get tired of hearing him say it.
“Good thing, because I love you too.”
He ran his thumb over the diamond. “Can’t we at least tell Sutton soon?”
“Yeah. Soon.” I nodded.
He lifted his head and our lips met.
The door to the bridal room opened and Ava’s head peeked out. “Oh no you don’t, Weston. No smearing her up until after pictures!”
“I’m coming,” I said to Ava. “Get back in there before Reed sees you!”
She disappeared, shutting the door.
“You’d better go,” Weston said, his hands skimming over the satin of my dress.
“I’ll see you in a few minutes.” I grazed my fingers along his jaw.
