Mac’s laptop was in the room. She wouldn’t mind me using it. I booted it up, used the password for the account she assigned to me in case I ever needed to use it, and I sent Jude a DM.

Do you have my phone? Or my purse?

It read ‘seen’ right away, but he didn’t type back.

I sent the same message to Amber and Toya in their DMs.

Amber was the only one who typed back right away.

Yeah. You left your purse at Troy’s. It’s still there. I don’t know about your phone. Want me to ask Troy to check your purse? See if it’s in there?

When had we gone to Troy’s? He was Luis’ boyfriend, the drummer in Jude’s band. I bit back a curse because I had no idea if I would’ve taken my phone with me. If I’d been wasted enough, and if someone had distracted me, I might’ve left it behind in my purse. Though, I was pretty conditioned to keep my phone with me.

Maybe it was in Cris’ truck? Might’ve fallen out of my jeans?

I replied to Amber, Could you check your backseat? See if my phone is there? Maybe fell out or something.

Amber: Sure will. I’m just leaving to pick Toya up for coffee and breakfast with the guys. Want me to swing over and get you?

Oh! I was tempted, really tempted. Cris hadn’t come barging in here. It’d be easy to slip out through the exit at the end of the hall, but I would still need to check his truck for my phone. Why hadn’t I thought about it on the way here in the first place?

I wrote back, No. I need to check somewhere first and then I’ll get a ride to Troy’s.

Amber: Okay. Check Troy’s bedroom when you get there. Sometimes he takes our things in there so his roommates don’t go through them.

Me: Good call. I’ll talk to you later.

I looked at Jude and Toya’s messages. Both had seen my message. Neither replied.

Awesome.

Cris’ sarcastic words haunted me. “. . .what a couple of great friends you have.”

We weren’t actually friends. We wasted time together while sharing the same pursuit of either being numb or being wasted so we didn’t feel anything else.

But it bugged me that Jude and Toya didn’t respond.

Maybe there was something to what Cris said, and I needed to. . . No. I was aware of the situation. He wasn’t. He could go eat a dick for all I cared.

I had no doubt I’d share that sentiment with him the next time he got in my face, because he was so eager for another showdown. I’d forgotten that Cris liked fighting. It’d been foreplay for us in the beginning until we just skipped fighting and went straight to banging. Even now, I grew heated barely thinking about a few of those times.

I cursed, shutting down Mac’s laptop and going to grab my things for a shower. My body trembled a little bit too, and I couldn’t lie to myself, saying that it was left over from my hangover. It was Cris and remembering how it felt when he’d pound inside of me.

He wasn’t talking to that girl when I went to the bathroom, but he was waiting still outside her door, which was almost directly across from the bathroom door.

He watched me walk toward him, his dark eyes going almost black the closer I got, his eyes trailing up and down over me, warming me with each pass of his eyes.

I got to the door, both of us paused, and the hallway had shrunk in size. It was only him. Only me.

Fuck. I wanted him.

He straightened, reading what I felt, and his eyes flashed, the same hunger showing right back.

My mouth watered, but I forced myself to go into the bathroom.

There was no one else inside.

My limbs turned leaden, and I went on autopilot, knowing what I really wanted to do, not letting myself think about it. He thought Jude was my boyfriend. I knew so many did, but that wasn’t the situation. And as I waited for the water to heat, I was barely feeling it.

Everything in me tightened up in need. I was aching for Cris, literally aching.

Jesus.

Why was this happening now? It’s like when I woke up in his bed, it woke the other part of me that I’d been trying to keep dead. I couldn’t handle it, but then I was moving without making a conscious decision.

I left my stall door open.

I went to the bathroom door, pushed it open.

Cris was there.

My gaze went right to his, and he’d been waiting.

We shared a look, just one before he pushed off from the wall, and caught the door as I began heading back to my shower stall.

He was right on my tail, a hand on my back, almost pushing me forward.
