A hand comes down over my mouth before I can let out a scream of surprise. My eyes meet Kenton’s in the bathroom mirror.

“Missed you, wife,” he says, spinning me around. As fast as he drops his hand from my mouth, he’s replacing it with his lips. We kiss as though we are both starved for one another.

I melt into him. I know I shouldn't, but I can’t help it. Even though he’s a big jerk and the crap he said hurt my feelings.

“I’ve missed you so damn much,” he says when his mouth leaves mine to travel down my neck.

“You’re an asshole,” I tell him.

“I know. I’m sorry.” The words come easily from him, surprising me. I don’t think Kenton is a man that hands out apologies easily. “I need you.” The plea in his voice has me melting more into him. Everyone is always needing me for something. The way Kenton says it though is different. As if he needs me to even breathe.

My body needs him too. He’s woken something inside of me. I’ve never felt this way before.

“Kenton. I need your mouth,” I tell him. It’s not all I need from him, but it’s all I can allow myself to admit right now.

“Then you’ll get my mouth.” He falls to his knees in front of me, pushing up the bridesmaid dress to give himself access. He gives me exactly what I asked for.

Truthfully, when it comes to Kenton, I want so much more.

“Are you going to tell me what’s going on?” Lennon asks, coming to stand next to me on the deck. The thing wraps around the whole house.

It gives us a clear view into the living room where the girls are back to doing whatever it is bridesmaids do. Seeing how happy Gabriella looks makes me wonder if she wants all the bells and whistles of a big wedding. We could still have one if she wanted.

I would go to the ends of the earth if it meant it would make her happy. The night that she and I got married, all I could think about was tying her to me before she found out who I really was. She wanted to get married on her family's land, so I made it happen.

“Nope.” I glance down at the whiskey in my hand my brother gave me a few moments ago. I set it down on the rail of the deck, not ready to wash away the taste of my wife yet. I’m savoring it. I’m not sure when I’m going to be getting another.

I decided to come into the house when Big busted me trailing them. I left the city right after court today. I needed to come out and steal a peek of my wife. Not being able to see her was driving me insane. I have to go back to the city tonight, though. I have court again early tomorrow morning. My plane is on standby.

I’m no freaking spy or bodyguard. I have no clue how to tail someone without being caught. In my line of work, that’s what private investigators are for. Being subtle has never been my thing. I’m more of a blunt force type of person and then I deal with the fallout or mess later.

Once I realized Big would be driving the girls over to Lennon’s, I knew I had no chance of not getting busted. The man has a dark past. I’d know. I’ve had someone digging into everyone that surrounds my wife. I needed to do it for my own peace of mind. I might not be able to be at her side all week while I wrap things up, but that doesn’t mean I couldn’t keep learning more about my new wife while we were apart.

Thankfully, Big is very in love with his wife. I’ve had eyes on Gabriella since I left town. Whether it be a bodyguard or one of the men I hired to help out with her family's farm, I’ve been getting regular updates. I didn’t have much of a choice, to be honest. I didn’t need a judge up my ass for missing a court date. It was already too late this week to make changes.

Thankfully, she’s been letting the men I sent help out. I’m using her own soft heart against her. The men told her if she didn’t let them work then they wouldn’t get paid, and I was the one cutting them the checks. She’d huffed about it, but in the end she gave them each a list of things they could do.

She wasn’t going to let the men go without work. She knows how important each paycheck is. I’m not a total ass. I still would have paid them even if she sent them away. The truth of the matter is they’d just go back over to Carl’s to work, but Gabriella didn’t need to know all that.
