I don’t know what to make of that, but I really don’t care. “I was with him that night, Glory. In the same bed. The man doesn't need to stalk me. I pretty much jumped him.”

“But you fell asleep. He could have snuck out in the middle of the night.”

“Why?” I shake my head.

“He got you back to his place living with him two seconds later.”

“And I love living with him.”

Glory grabs my hand, her face softening. “I see you’re falling for this man. I get that, but there’s more. I went to Syn City last week. I wanted to see if he’s been digging around about your past there too. I may have bribed a security guard at the hospital. Don’t judge me. You’re my best friend, and I’d do anything for you. And it just so happens that it paid off. I found out that Lennon made a giant donation a week before he conveniently ran into you.” She made air quotes when she said the word ran, as though she didn’t believe it was a random run-in and that Lennon had planned it.

“He made a donation to a hospital. You realize that's all the man does? You’re the one that asked me to go to an event he is putting on for charity. How does any of this make him the prime suspect in your book? None of it is out of character.” I laugh. This is crazy.

“He paid to get information on you.” She has my attention now.

“What? Why?”

“I don’t know. That’s why I haven't said anything. I don’t get it either, but he’s been sniffing around about you. I’ve got more stuff I can show you.” I shake my head.

“I need a minute.” I pull my hand out of hers. “Don’t follow me. I need a minute alone.”

“I’m sorry. Okay.” She backs off as I push into the bathroom. I look down at my phone and see a text from Lennon, making me smile. Why would he be looking into me before he met me? There really is no reason.

Lennon: Miss you.

Me: I miss you too.

Me: Can I ask you something?

Lennon: Anything

Me: Is there a reason Glory thinks you’re stalking me? She seems to think you came looking for me. That our meeting wasn’t by chance.

Lennon: Been looking for you most of my life.

Okay. That’s a good answer, but it didn’t answer my question.

Me: That’s sweet but I need you to answer my question so I can tell Glory to stick it. She’s talking crazy about you digging into my past and something about money being exchanged in the form of a donation in order to get access to medical records.

My phone rings a second later.

“Hey,” I answer, wanting to hear his explanation.

“There are things I need to tell you.” That sounds as bad as We need to talk. Still for some reason I’m not worried. I can’t fathom Lennon doing anything to hurt me. Then again, he is a little obsessed with me. But I love that about him. It makes me feel special.

“You’re scaring me.”

“I don’t want to do this over the phone.” Nerves start to bubble up in my stomach.

“Too bad. We’ve been together for weeks,” I remind him. “Please. You’re scaring me,” I plead with him, just wanting to know what the heck it is that he needs to tell me.

“We’ve met before. A long time ago.” I shake my head. I think I’d remember that. “You asked me to marry you.” I gasp in shock. My phone slips out of my hand, hitting the ground. My eyes fill with tears. How is this possible?

I bend down, picking it up. The screen is black. Lennon. It doesn’t matter. I need to see him right now. I push out of the bathroom to go find Glory to use her phone.

A hand comes down over my mouth and another around my waist. I scream, trying to fight. My feet leave the ground as I’m pulled out a back door.

“Stop fighting, bitch.” Yeah. I’ll get right on that. I jerk my head to the side, his hand slipping partly off my mouth. I bite down as hard as I can. He screams, letting me go. I hit the ground, the air leaving my lungs. “You’ll pay for that.” I look up as the man charges back toward me. He pulls his foot back, and I cover my face before he can kick me.

A loud crash has me dropping my hands. I open my eyes to see Lennon leaning over the man, who is wearing a mask. He pulls it off. “Motherfucker,” Lennon says before he lands a blow.

I sit up, not sure what to do. “Willow!” Glory runs out, helping me to my feet.

“He’s down. It’s murder at this point.” Big pulls Lennon back from the guy. I hear the girls asking me if I’m okay, but all of my attention is on Lennon. He turns my way. I do the only thing I can think of. I run, jumping into his arms. He catches me. I bury my face in his neck as I burst into tears.
